Job Opportunity: Hospice Registered Nurse

Location: Durham, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Provide hospice nursing care with a focus on patients in Durham towards Person County.
  • Expected to complete 4-5 patient visits per day.
  • Work schedule: Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM. No call and no weekend shifts.
  • First-time travelers are welcome. Local candidates within a 75-mile radius accepted.

Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience.
  • At least 1 year of recent experience in the Hospice field.

Required Licenses & Certifications

  • Current North Carolina RN license or Compact RN license.
  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA only).
  • Flu vaccination required; no exemptions or declinations accepted.

Additional Requirements

  • Must complete bi-weekly orientation.
  • Any scrub color is acceptable.
  • Prior travel experience is not required.

Clearance & Compliance Requirements

  • Background check within 90 days of start, including multi-county and nationwide searches.
  • NC SBI Fingerprint results required within 30 days of start (allowed to pend if proof of completion is provided).
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel within 30 days of start (instant tests not accepted).
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start.
  • Immunizations and health documents required:
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months.
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination every 10 years.
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) vaccination or positive antibody titers (no exemptions).
    • Hepatitis B titer, vaccine series, or declination.
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer (boosters required if low/equivocal).
    • Seasonal flu vaccination for the 2025-26 season (no exemptions).
    • Polio vaccine or signed attestation.

Documentation & Orientation

  • Must set up a Duke Guest Account prior to clearance to access orientation and work systems.
  • Completion of online modules prior to orientation.
  • Competency exams and skills checklists required.
  • Two professional references from employment within the last 12 months, including at least one supervisor.
  • Employment application and 7 years of work history required.
