Job Summary
Seeking an experienced Cath Lab Tech for a travel contract position in a cardiac catheterization lab setting. The unit includes 3 cath labs and one hybrid OR. The role requires participation in call coverage and weekend standby shifts.
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Diagnostic Cardiac Cath Lab and Interventional Cardiac Cath Lab (higher experience requirement confirmed).
- Prior travel experience required; first-time travelers are not accepted.
Work Schedule & Call Requirements
- Call required: Typically 6 evenings and 1 weekend per 6 weeks.
- Weekend shifts: Typically one weekend per 6 weeks on standby, with a 30-minute response time to call back.
Unit & Procedural Details
- Procedures include:
- Cardiac Stent Placement
- Diagnostic Catheterizations (Adult)
- IABP Placement/Removal
- Impella insertion
- Left and Right heart catheterization
- Percutaneous Coronary Interventions (PCI)
- Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty (PTCA)
- Rotablader athrectomy
- Temporary Pacemaker
- Ventricular Assist Device Insertion
- Preferred procedures: Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), Pulmonary Artery (PA) line insertion, Transcatheter Aortic Valve implantation/Replacement (TAVI/TAVR), Watchman device.
- Equipment: Fluoroscopy (Siemens).
- Procedural responsibilities include:
- Accurate monitoring
- Equipment setup
- EKG lead placement
- Prep access site
- Recognition of life-threatening arrhythmias
- Room circulator and scrub role maintaining sterile field
- Use of Vascular Closure Systems (Perclose, StarClose)
- Communication method: SBAR.
- Medication system: Pyxis.
- Documentation systems: EPIC, McKesson.
Required Qualifications
- Active license as a Cath Lab Tech or relevant certification for Radiology/Cardiology specialty.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification (AHA or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation).
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification (AHA or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation).
- Isolation precautions knowledge and adherence.
- Ability to respond to call within 30 minutes.
- Must have prior travel experience (no first-time travelers).
Additional Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO.
- Background check within 45 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years.
- Drug screen (10 panel) within 90 days of start.
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- Flu vaccine or declination (seasonal)
- COVID vaccine or declination
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years or declination
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
- Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Fit mask test required for travel candidates (updated annually).
- References: Minimum 2 references covering 1 year of employment within last 3 years in comparable specialty/setting.
Skills & Competencies
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam as applicable.
- Competency exams and skills checklists updated annually as required.
- Color blind testing may be required on a unit basis.
Work Environment
- Diagnostic and Interventional Cardiac Cath Lab.
- Call and weekend standby required.
- Scrubs provided.
- Must be able to float to other Providence facilities within reasonable distance if required.
Notes
- All Providence Swedish facilities honor active compact licenses.
- Candidates must be able to respond to call within 30 minutes.
- Prior travel experience is mandatory; no first-time travelers accepted.
This position is ideal for experienced Cath Lab Techs with strong procedural skills in cardiac catheterization and interventional cardiology, who are comfortable with call responsibilities and travel assignments.
