Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (ER) - Travel/Contract

Location: Columbia, Missouri
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Overview

  • Work in a Level 1 Trauma, Stroke, and STEMI Emergency Department (ED) with a pediatric ED inside the hospital ED.
  • Float between ED and ED Observation units (Psych center associated but no float there).
  • Position requires working 50% of holidays and every other weekend.
  • Rotating shifts, including holiday and inclement weather coverage.
  • Active role requiring ambulation, reaching, and moving objects over 20 lbs.
  • Exposure to patients with contagious illnesses.
  • Must be able to work full shifts, take call, and work assigned weekends and holidays.

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri.
  • Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience, including experience within the last year.
  • Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC).
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by AHA or ARC.
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification issued by AHA or ARC.
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) certification.

Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of Registered Nurse experience.
  • Level I trauma experience required for first-time travelers.
  • First-time travelers accepted if they have Level I trauma experience.

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA or ARC Provider card required.
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – AHA or ARC Provider card required.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or ARC Provider card required for all RNs.
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) – Required for all pre-start ER RNs as of 11/5/2024.
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) – Preferred (Blue Card), especially for Psych/Behavioral Health RNs; onsite course available if not obtained prior to start.

Licensure

  • Valid Registered Nurse license in Missouri.
  • NURSYS verification required within 60 days of start.

Physical & Work Requirements

  • Ability to ambulate, reach, and move objects weighing 20+ lbs.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and during inclement weather.
  • Ability to work in a 24/7 healthcare facility environment.

Prior Travel Experience

  • Not explicitly required; first-time travelers accepted with Level I trauma experience.

Immunizations & Health Requirements

  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year; annual updates required.
  • Tdap vaccination within 10 years or approved exemption.
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) immunity via positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters required if no proof.
  • Varicella immunity via positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters required if no proof.
  • Hepatitis B series or positive/reactive titer required; boosters if low titer.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (10/01 - 03/31).
  • Negative 7-panel drug screen within 60 days of start.
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start (specific mask types required).

Background & Screening Requirements

  • 7-year background check within 60 days of start.
  • MO Family Care Safety Registry (FCSR) or MO Caregiver search required within 60 days.
  • Education verification as applicable.
  • Professional references (2) within last 2 years required.
  • Employment application/resume with 7 years of employment history, no gaps over 30 days.

Additional Notes

  • Float between ED and ED Observation units.
  • Psych center float not required.
  • Position requires working at least 50% of holidays during contract.
  • Physical demands and exposure to contagious illnesses are essential job functions.
