Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Med/Surg Telemetry) - Akron, Ohio

Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (Med/Surg Telemetry)
  • Location: Akron, Ohio
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks

Experience & Licensing Requirements

  • Minimum of 18 months recent permanent Med/Surg Telemetry experience prior to travel
  • Must have a permanent Ohio nursing license or a compact state license in hand
  • Current AHA BLS & ACLS certifications required

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support): AHA Instructor or Provider; RQI acceptable
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): AHA Instructor or Provider; RQI acceptable
  • Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication): Required for all bedside RNs (except OR RNs), completed onsite during orientation
  • State License Verification: Primary source verification within 30 days of start; license must be current
  • NURSYS Verification: Required within 30 days of start
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement: Required annually
  • Competency Exams: Unit-specific competency exam required within 12 months of start and updated annually
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam: Required as applicable
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course): Required for ER (preferred for others)
  • NIH Stroke Certification: Preferred for certain units; must be current
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support): Preferred but not required for this role

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical Exam: Within 1 year of start, including Snellen eye exam (for candidates signing 4/11/2025 or later)
  • Fit Mask Test: Required within 12 months of start and updated annually (3M N95 masks)
  • Immunizations:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or Chest X-Ray within 12 months (annual updates required)
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster if titers negative/equivocal
    • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster if titers negative/equivocal
    • Hepatitis B: Titer, series, or declination documentation
    • Flu Vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (10/31 - 03/31)
  • Drug Testing: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start; updated annually; instant drug screens not accepted
  • Eye Exam: Required within 1 year of start for new candidates signing 4/11/2025 or later

Background Checks & Fingerprinting

  • Comprehensive background check required prior to start, including:
    • FCRA compliant 7-year search (SSN trace, counties, states, nationwide)
    • National sex offender registry, OFAC, FACIS Level 3, education verification
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required
  • FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 12 months of start and updated annually
    • Fingerprints must be completed under code 4723.09 (Nursing)
    • Candidates can start with fingerprint results pending if prints are completed prior to start
    • Facility will conduct their own fingerprinting in addition to agency process

Documentation & Compliance

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID) required and must be carried on assignment
  • Employment application must include at least 3 years prior work history with 2 years in acute care in a similar area
  • Two professional references required from employment within one year of start (manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director)
  • Completion of facility-specific online training modules prior to start (must be done on a computer using Google Chrome)
  • Photo for badge required (headshot, shoulders up, white background)
  • Annual skills checklist and competency exams required

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must complete all onboarding modules prior to clearance to start
  • Physical exam must confirm ability to safely perform essential job functions, with or without accommodation
  • Facility accommodates latex allergies; notification required to ensure latex-free gloves availability
  • Candidates with gaps in employment longer than 40 days may need updated physical, TB, and eye exams
  • Pass/fail testing and medication competency exams are required onsite during orientation
  • Flu vaccine exemptions require agency and facility approval; declinations are not accepted

This position is ideal for experienced Med/Surg Telemetry RNs licensed in Ohio or a compact state, who are comfortable working night shifts and meeting comprehensive credentialing and health requirements.

The staff is very friendly and helpful.

Cons

Cleveland Clinic, the main campus, cuts the staff when adding more work. This is very disorganized and harmful to the rest of the staff.
