Registered Nurse (Med/Surg Telemetry) - Akron, Ohio

Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Location: Akron, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)


Job Requirements

  • Minimum of 18 months recent permanent Med/Surg Telemetry nursing experience prior to travel assignment.
  • Must have a permanent Ohio nursing license or a compact state license in hand.
  • Current AHA BLS & ACLS certifications required.
  • Experience with Med/Surg Telemetry patient care.

Certifications & Training

  • BLS (Basic Life Support): AHA Instructor or Provider; RQI acceptable. Must be current.
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): AHA Instructor or Provider; RQI acceptable. Must be current.
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support): Preferred but not required.
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program): Required only for L&D, OB/GYN, NICU.
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course): Required for ER.
  • State License Verification: Primary source verification within 30 days of start; license must be current.
  • NURSYS Verification: Required within 30 days of start.
  • NIH Stroke Certification: Preferred for certain units; must be current.
  • Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication): Required for bedside RNs (except OR); completed onsite during orientation.
  • Competency Exams: Unit-specific competency exam required within 12 months of start and updated annually.
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement: Required annually.
  • Acknowledgement of Pass/Fail Testing: Required for all nursing positions except OR.

Background & Compliance

  • Background Check: Required prior to start; must be updated annually and after breaks in service of 2+ months. Includes 7-year FCRA-compliant search.
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required.
  • Fingerprinting: FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 12 months of start and updated annually. Must be completed within 48 hours of contract signing. Candidates may start with results pending but must complete prior to extension.
  • Education Verification: Required for all candidates; international verifications require CGFNS documentation as placeholder if delayed.

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical Exam: Within 1 year of start; must confirm ability to perform essential job functions. Includes Snellen eye exam for candidates signing after 4/11/2025.
  • Fit Mask Test: Required within 12 months and updated annually. Must use approved N95 masks.
  • Immunizations:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or Chest X-Ray (annual)
    • TB Questionnaire if history of positive TB (annual)
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer; booster if negative/equivocal.
    • Hepatitis B: Titer, series, or declination.
    • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster if negative/equivocal.
    • Flu Vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (10/31 - 03/31).
  • Drug Testing: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months; updated annually. Instant drug screens not accepted.
  • Eye Exam: Required within 1 year of start for new candidates signing after 4/11/2025.

Documentation & Onboarding

  • Government-Issued Photo ID: Must carry while on assignment.
  • References: 2 references required from employment within 1 year of start (manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director). Co-worker references not accepted.
  • Employment Application: Must include 3 years prior work history with at least 2 years clinical practice in acute care and similar area.
  • Photo for Badge: Required for certain roles (e.g., OR Tech First Assistants).
  • Online Training Modules: Must be completed prior to start; includes mandatory onboarding and compliance modules.
  • SafeMedicate Prep Materials: Provided for review before pass/fail testing during orientation.

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must comply with all facility-specific policies and complete all required documentation and training prior to starting.
  • Candidates with gaps in employment or returning to the facility may have specific re-onboarding requirements.
  • Facility accommodates latex allergies; notification required to ensure latex-free supplies.
  • Candidates must maintain all certifications and health requirements current throughout the assignment.

Cons

Cleveland Clinic, the main campus, cuts the staff when adding more work. This is very disorganized and harmful to the rest of the staff.
