Registered Nurse (Operating Room) - Travel/Contract
Location: Chicago, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse - Operating Room (OR)
- Shift: 5x8 hour shifts, 10:00 AM - 6:30 PM, no block scheduling
- Call Requirements: One 12-hour shift per month on a weekend (Saturday or Sunday), either 7 AM - 7 PM or 7 PM - 7 AM; no weekday call
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (2 weekends per month)
- Return to Office (RTO): Maximum 5 days off with no more than 2 consecutive days; no holiday RTO; no RTO day before or after a holiday; no RTO on weekends
- Floating: Mandatory float facility; all clinicians must float within their scope as needed
- Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week
Experience & Skills Required
- Minimum 2 years recent acute care experience in the Operating Room
- Level 1 Trauma experience required
- Strong scrub and circulate skills
- Experience in Orthopedics, Orthopedic Trauma, Vascular, Urology, General Surgery required
- Preferred experience in Neurosurgery (cranial and spine), Open Heart/Thoracic, Ophthalmology, ENT, Bariatric, and Gynecology
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP) but BLS is mandatory for this role
Location & Housing
- Locals accepted, preferred candidates live within 75 miles of the facility
- Pending licenses are not accepted

Compliance & Documentation Requirements
Background Checks
- Background check within 12 months covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years, updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
- International background check if applicable (lived/worked internationally in past 7 years)
- Illinois Health Care Worker Registry Search required for aides and nursing assistants only (not RNs)
Health Documents
- Physical exam within 12 months, signed by PA, NP, DO, or MD
- Fit mask test (N95 or equivalent) within 1 year, required annually
- Tdap vaccine within 10 years or signed declination (declination must be within 12 months)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months, updated annually
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer with boosters if low titer
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination within 1 year
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer with booster if low titer
- Negative 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start, updated annually
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - Apr 1)
Competency Exams (for starts on/after specified dates)
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam
- Color Blind Testing
- General Competency Exam
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (preferred for ER RNs)
Facility Specific Documents
- Various HIS forms and rules of behavior must be completed prior to start, including RN-specific forms
Additional Notes
- References: 2 references within 2 years preferred but not mandatory to start
- Employment application and skills checklist required annually
- Must comply with all facility-specific policies and procedures
