Registered Nurse (MedSurg) - Travel/Contract Position
Location: Elkhart, Indiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Specialty: MedSurg Registered Nurse
- Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Floating: Occasional floating to other Level 3 departments
- Holiday Requirement: One holiday per contract
- Additional Shifts: Two extra level-loading shifts every 6 weeks (flexible scheduling)
- Patient Ratios: 1:5 to 1:6 on MedSurg Unit
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
- First-time Travelers: Accepted
Experience Requirements
- With travel experience: Minimum 1 year of RN experience
- Without travel experience: Minimum 18 months of RN experience
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIHSS (NIH Stroke Scale)
Preferred Certifications:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention)
- ONC (Oncology Nursing Certification)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
Licensing & Location
- License: Pending licenses accepted if active by start date
- Locals: Not accepted; must live at least 50 miles from facility
Uniform & Documentation
- Scrub Color: Royal Blue
- Charting System: Cerner
Attendance Policy
- Allowed 2 call-offs per assignment without penalty
- 3rd call-off may result in contract termination or coaching
Background & Health Requirements
- Background check covering last 7 years, all states lived/worked in
- Education verification or diploma/transcript required
- Physical exam required
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Drug screen: Negative 12-panel drug test within 30 days of start
- Immunizations or titers required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
- Varicella
- Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious declination required prior to start
- COVID vaccine exemption allowed with medical documentation
Onboarding Requirements
- Completion of facility-specific modules (~8-10 hours) prior to start
- Submission of a passport-style photo for badge
- Confidentiality and non-disclosure agreement
- Various facility-specific documents and attestations as required
This position offers a structured night shift schedule with flexibility in additional shifts, a supportive attendance policy, and clear certification and health requirements suitable for both new and experienced travel nurses.
