Contract Length: 16 weeks

Job Description

• Charge RN role requiring prior charge nurse experience.
• Must work nights, weekends, and be available for call.
• Operating Room RN position.
• Minimum 5 years of RN experience required.
• Connecticut RN license required prior to start.
• Trauma experience is required for this position.
• Charting system: EPIC.

Required Experience

• Specialty Experience: Minimum 5 years as an RN.
• Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required.

Certifications Required

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or ARC only.
• BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC only.
• TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - Required for ER and trauma-related units.
• State RN License verification (Connecticut) required within 30 days of start.
• NURSYS Verification (RN) within 30 days of start.
• Other certifications may be required depending on unit specifics.

Background Checks & Verifications

• 7-year criminal background check required within 12 months prior to start; must be updated annually.
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start.
• Education verification including transcript/diploma and foreign equivalency evaluation (if internationally educated).
• Employment application with 7-year work history and no gaps greater than 90 days.
• Work history verification for the last 7 years.
• Attestation of prior radiation exposure if applicable to certain units.

Competency Requirements

• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (must score 85%).
• Color Blind Testing (required for all candidates starting on or after 8/2/2024; must score 80% or higher).
• Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required for certain units (not required for OR).
• Other competency exams as required by unit.

Health & Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within 12 months of start.
• Fit mask test within 12 months of start; must be updated annually.
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation.
• Annual TB questionnaire.
• Immunizations or proof of immunity for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella.
• 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start.
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season.
• COVID vaccination preferred but not mandatory.

• Stroke Education (not required for Pediatric specialties or NICU).
• CLABSI Prevention for Adult and Pediatric Training.
• Preventing Pressure Injury Training.
• Language Services Training.
• CAUTI Education Training (except PICU, NICU, Psychiatry/Behavioral Health).
• Patient Transportation with Oxygen Education.
• Suicide Risk and Environmental Assessment Training.
• Pyxis ES MedStation Modules.
• Baxter Pump Interoperability Training.
• Patient Bedside Rounding (except OR, Behavioral Health, Ambulatory, ER/ED).
• Mobile Heartbeat Alarm Module (except ER/ED, Pediatrics, ICU, NICU).
• Ventricular Assist Device Awareness.
• AME Blood Administration Module (except Case Managers, Behavioral Health/Psych, Home Health).
• New Employee Orientation Module.
• 21st Century Cures Act Module (required for RN except Home Health).
• ED Handbook (for ED/ER RNs only).
• eCart Training Module (not required for Pediatric, Periop/OR, Outpatient, Case Managers, Home Health).
• Chaperone Policy Training.
• EPIC Testing (optional but highly encouraged for those with EPIC experience).

Additional Notes

• Must be able to work charge nurse responsibilities.
• Trauma experience is mandatory.
• Connecticut RN license must be active prior to start.
• Night shift, weekends, and call coverage required.
