Job Opportunity: Neuro ICU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: New Haven, Connecticut
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse with Neuro ICU experience for a travel/contract position. First-time travelers are accepted. The role involves working in a Level I Trauma Center with short-term acute care services.
Key Details

- Shift Ratios: Average 1:2 patient ratio for both day and night shifts
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- On-call: Not required
- Floating: May float within scope to meet facility needs

Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years Neuro ICU experience (highest required years of experience)
- Neuro ICU experience is mandatory
Required Certifications
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Certification
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
License Requirements
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Connecticut
- Primary source verification required within 30 days of start
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check (updated annually)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- Education verification including foreign equivalency for internationally educated RNs
- Sex offender search
- Employment application with 7-year work history and no gaps greater than 90 days
- Work history verification for last 7 years (attestations not accepted)
- Attestation of prior radiation exposure if applicable
Competency and Testing Requirements
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (minimum 85% score)
- Color Blind Testing (required for all candidates starting 8/2/2024, minimum 80% score)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for ICU units (including Neuro ICU)
- EPIC testing if prior EPIC experience is noted (optional but highly encouraged)
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Fit mask test within 12 months, updated annually (3M N95 preferred)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation
- Annual TB questionnaire
- Required vaccinations or proof of immunity:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (or declination within 1 year)
- Varicella
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap highly preferred for pediatric specialties but not required here
- 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start
- Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season
- COVID vaccination series preferred

- Stroke Education Module and Attestation (not required for pediatric specialties or NICU)
- CLABSI Prevention Training and Attestation
- Preventing Pressure Injury Training and Attestation
- Language Services Training and Attestation
- CAUTI Education Training (except PICU, NICU, Psychiatry/Behavioral Health)
- Patient Transportation with Oxygen Education
- Suicide Risk and Environmental Assessment Training
- Pyxis ES MedStation Training and Attestation
- Baxter Pump Interoperability Training
- Patient Bedside Rounding Module (except OR, Behavioral Health, Ambulatory, ER/ED)
- Ventricular Assist Device Awareness Training
- AME Blood Administration Module (except Case Managers, Behavioral Health/Psych, Home Health)
- New Employee Orientation Module
- 21st Century Cures Act Module (required for RN except Home Health)
- ED Handbook (for ED/ER RNs only)
- eCart Training Module (not required for Pediatric, Periop/OR, Outpatient, Case Managers, Home Health)
- Chaperone Policy Training
- EPIC Testing (optional but encouraged)
- Vaccination Booster Medical Exemption process if applicable
Additional Notes
- Candidates must be willing to work every other weekend and float within their scope as needed.
- Pending licenses are accepted, but primary source verification must be completed within 30 days of start.
- First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply.
- RTO (Return to Office) restrictions apply for absences greater than 7 days.
This position offers an opportunity to work in a high-acuity Neuro ICU setting within a large Level I Trauma Center, with comprehensive support and compliance requirements to ensure quality and safety.
