Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (ER) - Travel/Contract

Location: La Plata, Maryland
Contract Length: 13 weeks (will consider up to 26 weeks)
Start Date: 02/23/2026
Shift: 3x12 hour shifts, Mid shifts (11:00 AM - 11:30 PM)
Schedule: Every other weekend required, holidays as scheduled
Floating: Required within the specialty
On-Call: No pre-scheduled on-call requirements

• Specialty: Emergency Department Registered Nurse
• Required Experience: 2 years preferred; will consider 1 year with strong ER skills
• Prior Travel Experience: Not required; first-time travelers with strong ER experience are welcome

Patient & Unit Information

• Unit Type: Fast-paced Emergency Department
• Patient Population: All age ranges (infant to geriatric)
• Patient Diagnoses: All diagnoses, complex cases
• Average Daily Census: 130 patients
• Number of Beds: 47
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4

Licensure & Certifications Required

• Maryland RN State License
• BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA only, e-cards with eCodes required, cannot expire within 30 days of start
• NIH Stroke Certification (required for ED staff)
• CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) - as applicable
• Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., TNCC, NRP, CHEMO, EFM)

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Background checks including 7-year criminal search, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, education verification
• Government-issued photo ID
• I9 or attestation
• Drug testing: Negative 9 or 10 panel drug screen (no instant tests), within 30-45 days prior to start
• Physical exam within 1 year of start
• Fit mask test (N95 1860 respirator) within 1 year, medically cleared to wear
• Immunizations and titers:

  • TB testing (QGOLD, TSPOT, or 2-step PPD) updated annually
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (required for units working with children; not required for ER unless pediatric ER)
  • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines/boosters
  • Hepatitis B: Positive titer or declination (series not accepted)
• Seasonal Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct-Apr)
• COVID vaccine not required for this location but documentation or declination collected for tracking

Additional Requirements

• Two supervisory references within 1 year of start (charge RNs, supervisors, or managers)
• Employment application/resume completed within 30 days of start
• Verification of previous 5 years of employment history (attestation accepted if necessary)
• Facility-specific documents including confidentiality agreements, dress code review, badge photo, and computer system agreements must be completed prior to start

Work Environment

• Emergency Department with a diverse patient population and complex, fast-paced cases
• Floating within the specialty required
• No pre-scheduled on-call duties
