Patient Population
- Adults to Geriatrics
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years of ICU nursing experience
- 1st time travelers accepted
- Prior travel experience: Not required
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Certification (if required by unit)
- Additional certifications may be required depending on unit specifics (e.g., PALS, NRP, EFM) but not mandatory for this ICU role
Clinical Skills and Work Environment
- Common diagnoses: ARDS, Sepsis, Stroke, STEMI, DKA, Post-op complications, Cardiogenic shock, GIB, COPD exacerbation, encephalopathy, Liver failure, Drug overdose, ESRD on CRRT
- Patient ratio: 1:2-3 (may occasionally take a 3rd patient)
- Unit size: 24 rooms, average daily census 19
- Unit systems: Pyxis, Epic, SBAR
- Floating: Yes, within facility and scope of practice as needed
- Block scheduling not guaranteed
- No travel pairs allowed
- Scrub color: Navy Blue
Work Schedule
- Weekends: Every other weekend
- Holidays: Expected to work major holidays during assignment (Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year's Eve/Day)
- Return to Office (RTO): Maximum 7 days
Required Qualifications and Compliance
- Must pass clinical screen to determine clinical fit
- Full compliance with orientation and credentialing required to start on time
- Background check, education verification, and licensure verification required prior to start
- Physical exam within 12 months required
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months required
- Drug screening (10-panel) within 60 days required
- Annual NURSYS license verification required
- Immunizations: MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tdap (highly recommended), Flu vaccine or declination required
- Competency exams required: Medication/Pharmacology, Dysrhythmia/EKG (specific to ICU and related units), Color Blind Testing
- Must review and sign facility Code of Conduct and Dress/Professional Appearance policies

- Locals accepted at same rate
- Number of non-billable orientation hours depends on contract length (e.g., 14 weeks = 14 hours)
- Floating within facility as needed
- Clinical remediation not allowed for competency exams; up to 3 attempts permitted for Dysrhythmia/EKG exam before cancellation
