Job Opportunity: RRT-NICU (Travel/Contract)

Location: Durham, North Carolina

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in NICU, pediatric critical care, pediatrics, and emergency department (ED)
  • Level IV NICU experience is a hard requirement
  • Experience with high frequency jet ventilator and oscillating ventilator
  • Experience with pediatric cardiac anomalies

Certifications Required

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • NC RRT licensure (must have in hand; takes 2-4 weeks to obtain)

Schedule

  • Weekend shifts required: 6 weekend shifts per schedule
  • Schedule published in 6-week blocks
  • On-call not required

Additional Requirements

  • Flu vaccination required; no exemptions or declinations accepted
  • Must have valid NC RRT license before start
  • First-time travelers are eligible
  • Local candidates within 75 miles considered

Orientation

  • Bi-weekly orientation sessions

Background and Compliance

  • Background checks must be completed within 90 days of start, including multi-county and nationwide searches
  • Drug testing: Negative 10-panel within 30 days of start (no instant tests)
  • Physical exam required within 12 months of start
  • Immunizations and health documents required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella vaccinations or positive titers (no exemptions)
    • Hepatitis B titer, vaccine series, or declination
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
    • Seasonal flu vaccination (required for new candidates starting October-March)
    • Polio vaccine or attestation

Documentation and Verification

  • Employment application and 7 years of work history required
  • Two professional references from employment within 12 months, including at least one supervisor
  • Competency exams and skills checklists required and must be updated annually
  • Facility-specific documents and online modules must be completed prior to orientation
  • Duke Guest Account setup required prior to clearance for access to orientation and work systems

Note: This position requires specialized NICU respiratory therapy skills with pediatric critical care experience and specific ventilator expertise. Candidates must be prepared for weekend work and strict compliance with health and background requirements.
