Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Opportunity

Location: Redlands, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Overview

• Position in Observation Unit with 8 rooms and 16 beds
• Patient ratio: 1:4 (experience with 1:3 ratio preferred)
• Telemetry (TELE) experience required
• Float to Med/Surg and Telemetry; ability to float to ER is ideal
• Every other weekend typically required
• Self-scheduling with manager balance

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required (more experience preferred for first-time travelers)
• Prior travel experience preferred but not required

Certifications Required

• NIH Stroke Certification
• Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA only
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - AHA only

Required Skills and Experience

• Telemetry (hard requirement) including cardiac telemetry and remote monitoring
• ER holding experience
• Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
• Use of Rapid Response Teams
• Titration of insulin drips
• Feeding tube care and management
• Pre/Post hemodialysis management
• Renal failure care
• Accessing ports, peripheral line care/management, PICC line management
• Starting IVs and heparin protocols
• Management of cardiac and vasoactive drips (titration and no titration)
• Care of CVA patients
• Surgical drains care
• Care of ventilated patients including external CPAP/BiPAP, high flow nasal cannula, nasal cannula, oxygen face masks
• Non-invasive airway management and tracheostomy management
• Isolation precautions
• Wound care and wound vac management

Preferred Skills

• Arterial line management
• Central line care/management
• Phlebotomy
• Chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac)

Technology and Documentation

• Omnicell medication system
• Meditech Expanse documentation system

Additional Information

• Navy scrubs required (not provided)
• Provider support includes interpretation services, lift teams, pharmacy, phlebotomy, physical therapy, radiology, rapid response teams, respiratory services, social services, and unit secretary
• Provider coverage includes Intensivist, Nurse Practitioner, and Hospitalist

Compliance and Onboarding Requirements

• Background checks including SS trace, county searches (7 years), nationwide, sex offender, and international if applicable
• Drug testing: 10-panel drug screen including THC within 30 days of start
• Immunizations and health documents required:

  • Physical exam within last 12 months
  • Fit mask testing
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (updated every 10 years)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (with specific requirements for past positives)
  • Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella titers or vaccinations
  • Flu vaccination or declination (mask required if declined)
  • COVID vaccination plus booster or approved exemption
• Various facility-specific acknowledgments and signed documents required (e.g., confidentiality, code of conduct, abuse reporting, drug-free workplace policy)
• Professional references required (2 within last 2 years)
• Skills checklist and work history verification required annually
