Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - PCU/Tele

Position Overview

  • Role: Registered Nurse for Progressive Care Unit (PCU) / Telemetry
  • The unit functions as a telemetry unit but the level of care is Progressive Care Unit (PCU).
  • Patient ratios typically 1:4-5.
  • Care includes routine, uncomplicated cardiac procedures, non-cardiac thoracic surgery post-op care, and nonurgent percutaneous coronary interventions with complications.
  • Nurses may be required to float within their scope to Med-Surg and Emergency Department Tele overflow as needed. ICU float only within scope of practice.

Shift Details

  • Scheduled primarily for one shift (day or night) without shift preference.
  • Four-day window to switch or find coverage before schedule finalization.
  • Overtime is at management discretion and not guaranteed.
  • Weekend work required every other weekend.
  • Holidays are required; specific dates determined by unit needs. No holiday work preferences allowed.

Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required.
  • Preferred 3-5 years of experience.
  • First-time travelers are not accepted.

Licensure & Certifications

  • Must have Compact or Guam RN licensure in hand at time of application.
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification required.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required.
  • Passport in hand is required for travel.
  • Additional certifications may be required depending on unit assignment (e.g., PALS, NRP, Conscious Sedation, NIH Stroke Scale Training).

Additional Requirements

  • Candidates must not be local residents of Guam.
  • No pending licenses accepted.
  • On-call is not required.
  • Must be willing to float within scope to other units as needed.
  • Return to Office (RTO) requests must be approved before contract start; limited days allowed.
  • Travelers should be prepared to pick up additional shifts based on census.
  • Flights are not reimbursed; candidates should budget for round-trip airfare.
  • Candidates should plan to arrive at least one day before the start date due to travel time and time zone differences.

Orientation and Testing

  • Onsite drug calculation and Basic Knowledge Assessment Tool (BKAT) exams required during orientation.
  • Exams are pen and paper format, must be completed in person.
  • Passing score is 80% or higher; two attempts allowed with remediation discussion after first attempt.

Health and Compliance Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start (facility does not require but agency does).
  • Fit test for approved masks within 1 year prior to start; may be completed onsite if necessary.
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year.
  • Required immunizations or proof of immunity: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical declination required during flu season.
  • COVID-19 vaccination strongly preferred; declination requires facility-specific waiver.
  • 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start; instant drug screens accepted.

Required Documentation

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
  • Current US Passport (Canadian passports not accepted).
  • Emergency contact form.
  • Background check within 1 year including criminal and nationwide searches.
  • Annual federal exclusions and sanctions checks (EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG).
  • Professional references (2 for travel/per diem acute care).
  • Work history verification for the last 10 years.

Facility Specific Training Modules (must be completed by compliance deadline)

  • Pressure Injury Training
  • NIH Stroke Scale Training (RNs only)
  • Alaris IV Pumps Training (RNs only)
  • Pyxis CareFusion Training (RNs only)
  • FEMA modules (completed onsite)
  • Conscious Sedation (required for ER, ICU, Cath Lab)
  • Emergency Severity Index (ESI) training for ER

This position requires flexibility, strong clinical skills in PCU/Telemetry, and readiness to comply with all licensure, certification, and health requirements. Candidates must be prepared for travel logistics and facility-specific onboarding processes.
