Travel/Contract Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical Oncology

Location: Augusta, Georgia
Contract Length: 14 weeks

Job Summary

Provide nursing care for adult to geriatric patients in a medical surgical oncology setting. Manage oncology and hematology diagnoses, including oncologic emergencies and end-of-life care.

Patient Population

• Adults to Geriatrics

Required Experience

• Minimum 2 years nursing experience in specialty
• 1st time travelers accepted
• Prior travel experience: Not required

Certifications Required

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• OCN (Oncology Certified Nurse)

Clinical Skills & Work Environment

• Manage oncology diagnoses from diagnosis to death
• Hematology diagnoses
• DNR/Comfort Care (CC)
• Oncologic emergencies
• Chemotherapy precautions
• Management of morphine drips, dilaudid drips, CADD pumps, PCA pumps
• Patient ratio approximately 1:6
• Unit census: 19 beds, average daily census 15
• Electronic medical record system: Epic
• Other systems: Pyxis, SBAR communication tool

Schedule & Work Conditions

• Rotate weekends: every other weekend
• Floating: Yes, within facility and possibly to a nearby campus (3 miles away)
• Call: None
• Return to Office (RTO) maximum 7 days
• Holiday work expectations: If 1 major holiday falls during assignment, expected to work it; if 2 holidays, work both; if 3 holidays, work 2 of them

Orientation & Compliance

• Full compliance with onboarding requirements needed to start on time
• Orientation hours vary by contract length (e.g., 8 hours for 8-week assignment)
• Background check, education verification, and other pre-employment screenings required prior to start

Required Documents & Verifications

• Valid Georgia RN license
• Background check (including criminal, sex offender, education verification)
• Physical exam within 12 months
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
• Immunizations or titers for:

  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
  • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
  • Hepatitis B surface antibody titer or signed declination
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (Tdap highly recommended)
• Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start
• Flu vaccination or signed declination (required during flu season)
• Skills checklist within 12 months
• Work history verification and 2 clinical references

Additional Competency Requirements

• Medication/Pharmacology competency exam
• Color blindness test (with alternative assessment if needed)
• Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (if applicable)

Dress Code

• Scrub color: Navy Blue

Notes

• Floating may include working at a nearby facility within the same system
• Candidate must review and sign facility-specific policies such as Code of Conduct and Dress Policy prior to start
• Orientation and onboarding are strictly scheduled; delays in compliance may result in assignment start delays
