Travel Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical Oncology
Location: Augusta, Georgia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 14 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse with experience in Medical Surgical Oncology to provide care for adult to geriatric patients. The role involves managing oncology and hematology diagnoses, oncologic emergencies, and administering chemotherapy precautions and pain management drips.
Patient Population
- Adults to Geriatrics
- Oncology and Hematology patients
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience in the specialty
- 1st time travelers accepted (prior travel experience not required)
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- OCN (Oncology Certified Nurse)
Skills and Work Setting Requirements
- Oncology diagnoses from diagnosis to death
- Hematology diagnoses
- DNR/Comfort Care (CC)
- Oncologic emergencies
- Chemotherapy precautions
- Management of morphine drips, dilaudid drips, CADD pumps, PCA pumps
- Occasional off-service assignments
- Familiarity with Epic electronic health record system (required)
- Use of Pyxis medication dispensing system and SBAR communication technique
Staffing and Scheduling
- Nurse to patient ratio: 1:6
- Unit size: 19 beds, average daily census of 15
- Weekend schedule: Every other weekend
- Floating: Yes, within facility and possibly to a nearby location (~3 miles)
- Call: None
- Return to Office (RTO) policy: Maximum 7 days
- Holiday work: Required to work major holidays during assignment (with specific guidelines)
Required Licenses and Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse license for the state of Georgia
- Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) certification
- Current BLS certification
Compliance and Orientation
- Full compliance with credentialing and onboarding required to start on time
- Orientation hours vary based on contract length (e.g., 8 hours for 8-week assignment)
- Background check, education verification, and other standard pre-employment screenings required
Health and Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
- Required immunizations or proof of immunity: MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Varicella, Hepatitis B
- Flu vaccination or documented declination required during flu season
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start
Additional Requirements
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required
- Color blindness test required
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for certain units (Tele, ICU, ER, etc.)
- Skills checklist within 12 months
- Two clinical references required
Dress Code
- Scrub color: Navy Blue
Notes
- Floating may include assignments at a nearby facility within a few miles
- Candidates must be prepared to work assigned holidays as outlined
- No call responsibilities for this position
