Job Description
- Position: Registered Nurse for Progressive Care Unit (PCU), Neuro, Stepdown
- Minimum Experience: 2 recent years in nursing
- Neuro experience preferred; strong general medicine or surgical experience also considered
- Floating to Med/Surg, Neuro, Stepdown, PCU units
- Weekend Schedule: Every other weekend
- Blocked scheduling: Not available
- On-call: Not required
- First-time travelers are welcome
- Local candidates within 75 miles considered (with adjusted rate)
- Orientation: Bi-weekly
- Scrub Color: Royal Blue
- Flu vaccination is mandatory; no exemptions or declinations accepted
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in North Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, including experience within the last year
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Licensure
- Must hold a current North Carolina RN license or Compact RN license
Required Documentation & Compliance
- I9 or attestation
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s license or state ID)
- Social Security Card (if used for I9)
- Background checks including SSN trace, county checks for past 7 years, sex offender, international if applicable
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 90 days of start
- Education verification as applicable
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
- Required immunizations/vaccinations:
- Flu vaccine (mandatory, no exemptions)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (vaccines or positive titer required; no exemptions)
- Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
- Varicella (vaccines or positive titer)
- Polio vaccine or attestation
- Drug testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen including THC within 30 days of start (instant tests not accepted)
- TB questionnaire updated annually
- Two professional references from employment within last 12 months (one must be a supervisor)
- Employment application with 7 years of work history
Additional Notes
- Candidates must set up a guest account prior to clearance to access orientation and work systems
- Competency exams and unit-specific training required during orientation
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training provided during orientation (valid for 2 years)
- Candidates must complete all required online modules prior to orientation
- Candidates must comply with all facility-specific onboarding and documentation deadlines
Summary
This is a travel contract RN position in a PCU/Neuro Stepdown unit requiring at least 2 years of recent nursing experience, preferably with neuro or strong med/surg background. Candidates must have NC or Compact RN licensure, ACLS, BLS, NIHSS certification, and EPIC charting experience. Flu vaccination is mandatory with no exemptions. The contract length is approximately 13 weeks with every other weekend shifts and no on-call or blocked scheduling. First-time travelers and local candidates are welcome. Comprehensive background checks, immunizations, and documentation are required prior to start.
