Job Opportunity: Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) - Home Health

Location: Newport News, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) with home health experience required
  • Minimum 1 year of home health experience
  • Will see approximately 5-6 patients per day
  • No on-call responsibilities
  • Local candidates allowed at the same rate

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant license in Virginia
  • Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant with at least 1 year of experience, including experience within the last year
  • Minimum 1 year of home health experience in a Home Health setting
  • Valid and current driver’s license (required for all Home Health positions)
  • Must be at least 21 years old (25 if transporting patients) with a minimum of 3 years driving experience
  • Background check: 7-year criminal history check within a year of start, updated annually, including all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years
  • Physical exam within the last 12 months
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility requirements
  • Required immunizations/vaccinations or approved exemptions:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B
    • Varicella
    • Seasonal Flu (required during flu season)
    • COVID vaccination preferred
  • Drug screening within the last 12 months
  • Two professional references required
  • Application/resume required

Certifications & Competencies

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification current and valid (online CPR not accepted)
  • Other certifications as applicable to the specialty and facility requirements
  • Competency exams and medication/pharmacology competency as applicable, to be completed within one year of start date

Additional Requirements

  • Completion of facility-specific documents including confidentiality agreement, dress code policy, safety brochure, drug-free policy, hand washing hygiene policy, and scrub color agreement
  • Photo for badge meeting facility standards (recent, professional, neutral background, no hats/headphones, etc.)
  • Virginia State Police Check required and must be cleared prior to start
  • Fingerprinting per state requirements (effective 7/15/2025)
  • Annual updates for TB questionnaire and other health documents as required

  • Orientation includes pass/fail testing (computer-based learning) relevant to the position
