Registered Nurse - PCU

Location: Beckley, West Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Minimum 2+ years current experience in Telemetry (Tele), Progressive Care Unit (PCU), or Stepdown units.
• Patient ratios typically 1:5 or 1:6 (may fluctuate with census).
• Experience with Meditech EMR preferred.
• Float within scope of practice required.
• Work schedule includes every other weekend.
• Blocked scheduling cannot be accommodated.
• Orientation occurs bi-weekly.
• Must reside within 75 miles of the facility.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in West Virginia.
• Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with at least 1 year of recent PCU experience.
• Telemetry experience.
• American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
• Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).

Additional Requirements

• Must have a valid government-issued photo ID.
• Driver’s license required.
• Background checks including criminal, sex offender, fugitive, and employment verifications.
• Drug testing within 30 days of start date (specific panel required).
• Annual physical exam or physician note stating clearance to work without restrictions.
• Immunizations and health documentation required:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (valid within 10 years)
  • Negative TB test (QuantiFERON blood test within 1 year; T-Spot/PPD not accepted)
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer proof
  • Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination
  • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption
• Fit mask testing completed onsite (PAPRs not accommodated).
• References: 2 professional references within 1 year of start date (one must be a supervisor).
• Work history verification for the past 7 years.
• Skills checklist and competency exams required annually, including:

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency (except Psych, OR, Rehab, and true Med Surg units)
  • Core competencies (Parts I, II, III)
• Compliance with state-specific background checks and registries as applicable.

Scheduling & Work Conditions

• Schedule is based on a 36/48 hour rotation over two weeks.
• Ratios and assignments may fluctuate based on census and call-ins.
• Float assignments required within scope of practice.
• Every other weekend work required.
• Blocked scheduling is not available.

This position is ideal for experienced RNs with strong Tele/PCU/Stepdown skills seeking a travel contract in West Virginia.
