Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (MS/Telemetry)
Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Option for 36 or 48-hour shifts and 13 or 26 week contract lengths.
- Must be prepared to float frequently to meet hospital staffing needs, including potential floating to Bellevue campus.
- Unit: Medical Surgical/Telemetry (20-bed general medical surgical and telemetry unit including ortho patients).
- Patient types include: Total Knee and Hip replacements, complicated orthopedic cases, pulmonary, sepsis, GI, endocrine, cardiac, renal, and psychiatric illnesses.
- Behavioral health patients on 7th floor with potential for violent behavior (detox, dementia, etc.); secured floor with safety and de-escalation training provided.
- Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:5 days / 1:6 nights (night ratio can rarely be 1:7).
- Drip management required on all floors.
- EPIC charting experience required.
- Care team includes CNAs, care techs, transport team, paramedics; LPNs assigned on some floors.
- 100% nicotine-free facility.
- Weekend shifts: 4 out of 8 possible in a 4-week period (days: Sat/Sun; nights: Fri/Sat).
- RTO (Request Time Off) restrictions: Up to two weeks permitted; must be submitted with application.
- Holiday requirement: Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays.
- Locals not accepted (must live more than 100 miles from facility).
- Pending license accepted but must be in hand at time of submission or booking will be six weeks out.
- Scrubs: Mandatory Steele gray scrubs with facility logo (provided after confirmation).
- Parking available with permit or daily rate.
Required Qualifications
- License: Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Nebraska. Pending license accepted with conditions.
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of RN experience in a large, urban hospital.
- Prior Travel Experience: First-time travelers NOT accepted unless they have 2 years of experience at a Level I Academic Medical Center.
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - Required
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - Preferred
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) - Preferred
- Skills:
- Experience with drips on all floors.
- EPIC electronic medical record charting experience required.
- Comfortable caring for behavioral health patients and trained in safety/de-escalation.
Additional Requirements & Compliance
- Government-issued photo ID required.
- Background check within 30 days of start, including nationwide and federal enhanced searches.
- SAM and OIG checks required within 30 days of start and monthly thereafter.
- Education verification required.
- State-specific abuse/neglect registry check required.
- Orientation safety manual acknowledgment required.
- Primary source license verification and NURSYS verification required.
- NIH Stroke Certification, Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam, Color Blind Testing, and Competency Exam as applicable.
- Physical exam and fit mask test (3M 1860 Small/Regular or 3M 1870+) required within 1 year and updated annually.
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- Tdap/Tetanus vaccine within last 10 years
- Annual PPD or equivalent TB testing
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccines or positive titers
- Hepatitis B titer or declination
- Varicella vaccines or positive titer
- Drug screen within 60 days of start and annually thereafter
- Flu vaccine preferred (documentation or declination required)
- COVID vaccine preferred (medical/religious exemption or declination accepted)
- References: 2 work references from past 2 years required.
- Annual skills checklist required.
- Eye exam required only for OR staff (not applicable here).
