Job Summary

Seeking a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) / Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for a medical surgical role in an acute care correctional facility setting. This is a mandatory float position requiring flexibility to work across units within scope of practice.


Required Qualifications

  • Valid LPN / LVN license in Illinois
  • Minimum 1 year of medical-surgical nursing experience within the last year
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Experience working with pediatric patients
  • Experience working with neonate patients
  • Experience working with maternal-fetal patients
  • Experience in a corrections healthcare setting

Work Schedule & Requirements

  • Guaranteed 40 hours per week
  • Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (2 weekends per month)
  • Return to Office (RTO) policy: Maximum 5 days off with no more than 2 consecutive days; no RTO on holidays or weekends; no RTO day before or after holidays
  • Mandatory floating to other units as needed

Required Certifications & Compliance

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (must be completed within 12 months prior to start)
  • Background check within 12 months covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years, including aliases and nationwide searches
  • Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 90 days of start, updated annually
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start, signed by PA, NP, DO, or MD
  • Fit mask test (N95 or equivalent) within 1 year of start, required annually
  • Immunizations and health requirements:
    • Tdap vaccine within 10 years or signed declination (declination within 12 months)
    • Negative TB test (QGold or TSPOT) within 12 months, updated annually
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer with booster if low titer
    • Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination within 1 year
    • Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer with booster if low titer
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season (Oct 1 - Apr 1)

Additional Requirements

  • Must complete facility-specific forms and rules of behavior
  • Must comply with Illinois Healthcare Worker Registry eligibility requirements (if applicable)
  • No prior travel experience explicitly required

  • This position requires flexibility to float to different units as needed
  • Prior travel experience is not required for this role
  • The contract length is 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
