Job Opportunity: Med Surg/Tele Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Auburn, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Assignment Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (3x12s)
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend and every other holiday
- Floating: Required as per facility needs
- Start Date: ASAP
Required Experience
- Minimum 1 year of recent experience (within the past year) in Med Surg/Telemetry nursing
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required
Required Skills and Competencies
- Med Surg/Telemetry nursing skills
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Use of Rapid Response/Code teams
- Peripheral line care and management
- Oxygen administration (nasal cannula, oxygen tanks)
- Non-invasive airway management
- Isolation precautions
Required Licenses and Certifications
- License: New York State Registered Nurse License
- Certifications:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by American Heart Association
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
Additional Requirements
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Recent Med Surg/Telemetry experience within the last year (minimum 1 year)
- Must pass a telemetry assessment (minimum 80%) on the first day of orientation covering cardiac rhythm interpretation
- Background checks including SSN trace, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG required prior to start
- Physical exam within 12 months prior to start, signed by a licensed provider
- Fit mask test within 12 months, updated annually
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within last 10 years or declination)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 1 year)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella immunity documentation
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination
- Varicella immunity or vaccination
- Flu vaccine or declination during flu season
- COVID vaccine records or declination
- Drug screening (9 panel) within 30 days of start
- Professional references (2 within last 3 years)
- Skills checklist required
- Facility-specific documents to review and sign (e.g., Code of Conduct, Patient Abuse Reporting, Confidentiality Agreement)
Important Notes
- No blocked scheduling
- Call-off policy: maximum 3 shifts per 13-week assignment
- If the nurse does not have a NY license at time of submission, proof of application date is required
- Nurses are responsible for independently measuring and interpreting telemetry strips as facility does not employ telemetry technicians
