Medical Surgical Oncology Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract

Location: Bristol, Tennessee
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Employment Type: Travel/Contract
• Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (6:30 AM – 7:00 PM)
• Schedule: 36/36 (36 hours on, 36 hours off)
• Every other weekend required
• No call responsibilities
• Floating to other units as needed
• Travelers do not administer chemotherapy
• Hospital may cancel or call off one shift biweekly without penalty due to census changes
• Additional overtime shifts available as needed
• Expected to participate in nursing student support and clinical education alongside clinical care

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of Registered Nurse experience
• AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required (Instructor or Provider; RQI accepted)
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification may be required depending on unit
• Previous charge nurse experience preferred but not required
• Must live at least 100 miles from the facility
• First-time travelers accepted (no prior travel experience required)
• Valid RN license for Tennessee with primary source verification (NURSYS verification required)

Orientation & Onboarding

• General orientation begins on Sundays with online compliance-based learning (CBL)
• 16 hours of non-billable orientation required
• Photo for badge must be submitted within 48 hours of contract signing (neutral background, no filters, visible face)
• Respirator medical evaluation questionnaire and medical clearance forms must be completed within 48 hours of contract signing
• Fit mask testing completed onsite; previous fit tests from non-facility sources not accepted

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Background check within 30 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
• Education verification required
• Tennessee Adult Abuse Registry check required for those licensed or working in Tennessee
• Drug screening: Standard 9-panel drug test within 14 days of start (instant test acceptable as placeholder)
• Physical exam required within 1 year of start (does not require annual update)
• Immunizations/vaccinations required or documentation of immunity/declination:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray per protocol
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) titers or vaccination documentation
  • Varicella titer or vaccination documentation
  • Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season (Sept 29 – Mar 31)

Additional Requirements & Preferences

• Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required as applicable
• Skills checklist required
• Orientation safety manual acknowledgment required annually
• Candidates must review and comply with dress code, uniform guidelines, smoking/tobacco use policy, contaminated sharps and body fluid exposure statement, influenza policy, and CDC facial hair guidelines for respirator use
• References: Minimum 2 references preferred, 3 recommended

Notes

• Contract RN/LPN team members are expected to actively support nursing student education in addition to clinical duties
• Hospital may flex shifts based on census without financial penalty
• Floating to other units may be required
• No chemotherapy administration by travelers
