Job Opportunity: Step Down Registered Nurse

Location: Redlands, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Patient ratio: 1:3 with tracheostomy and ventilator management required
• Management of non-titrated cardiac drips including Amiodarone, Milrinone, Lasix, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and titrated Cardizem
• Insulin management (3:1 ratio preferred but not required)
• Weekend requirement: Minimum 2 weekends per month, possibly more
• Float within areas of competency: Medical/Surgical, Telemetry, Observation
• Use of Omnicell medication system and SBAR communication
• 24-hour orientation provided
• Navy scrubs required (not provided)
• No local candidates within 50 miles considered
• Provider support includes Interpretation Services, Lift Teams, Pharmacy, Phlebotomy, Physical Therapy, Radiology, Rapid Response Teams, Respiratory Services, Social Services, Unit Secretary, Intensivist and Hospitalist coverage

Required Skills and Experience

• Valid RN license in California
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Minimum 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year
• Telemetry experience
• Ventilated patient care
• Management of non-titrated cardiac drips
• Pre/post hemodialysis management
• PICC line management
• Use of external CPAP/BIPAP
• High flow nasal cannula (HFNC)
• Wound vac management

Required Certifications

• Registered Nurse license valid in California
• NIH Stroke Certification (required for telemetry, ICU, ED, observation, PACU, surgery prep)
• ACLS (American Heart Association only; RQI not accepted)
• BLS (American Heart Association only; RQI not accepted)

Additional Requirements

• Meditech experience preferred
• Will consider first-time travelers with PCU experience and 1:3-4 patient ratios
• Minimum of 2 weekends per month availability
• Must be able to float within competency areas
• No local candidates within 50 miles

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

• Valid government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or Passport)
• Background checks including SS trace, county searches, nationwide, sex offender, and international if applicable
• Drug screening (10-panel including THC) within 30 days of start
• Physical exam within last 12 months, updated annually
• Fit mask testing prior to start (no facial hair allowed during fit testing)
• Immunizations and titers: Tdap, TB screening, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella, Flu vaccination or declination, COVID vaccination plus booster or approved exemption
• Signed acknowledgments for safety manuals, abuse reporting, confidentiality, code of conduct, drug-free workplace, and other facility-specific policies
• Competency exams and medication/pharmacology tests as applicable
• References and employment verification as required

Experience Requirements

• Specialty: Registered Nurse (Step Down/Telemetry/PCU)
• Required years of experience: Minimum 1 year PCU experience within the last year
• Prior travel experience: Not required; first-time travelers with PCU experience will be considered

Notes

• Single set of RTO (Return to Office) up to 7 consecutive days will be considered
• Navy scrubs required but not provided
• Orientation is 24 hours
• Candidate must be able to work in a fast-paced, critical care environment with ventilator and cardiac drip management

This position is ideal for experienced step down or telemetry RNs comfortable with complex cardiac and respiratory care, including ventilator management and multiple lines/drips, who are open to travel assignments in California.
