Shift Details
- 4x12 hour shifts variable or 3x12 hour shifts variable (traveler's choice)
- Shifts are either days or nights; no regular rotation between day/night shifts except for urgent staffing needs
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid LPN / LVN license in Alaska
- Minimum 1 year of Long Term Care (LTC) experience within the last year
- One completed travel assignment
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
Additional Requirements
- Must be willing to work at least 2 of the 3 major winter holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's); preference for willingness to work any holidays
- No more than 2 weeks of time off (RTO) allowed for a 26-week contract
- Candidates must live at least 50 miles from the facility (locals not accepted)
- On-call is not required
- Floating within scope of practice may be required to meet facility needs
- Block scheduling is not accommodated
Work Environment
- Long Term Care Facility with 40 staffed beds
- Patient-to-staff ratio approximately 1:20
- Charting system: ECS
- Parking is free
Vehicle Use
- Facility provides a vehicle for use during the assignment (available 72 hours before start and must be returned within 24 hours after end)
- Only the traveler may operate the vehicle
- Traveler must provide valid driver’s license and proof of insurance including rental car coverage
- Vehicle use limited to within 30-mile radius around the facility; no off-road use
- Vehicle must be cleaned and returned with a full tank of gas
- Tire chains available at traveler’s expense if needed
Required Health and Background Documentation
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO
- Immunizations and health screenings including:
- TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
- Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination (Alaska placements require positive titer and vaccine series)
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season
- COVID vaccine or declination
- 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (instant tests not accepted)
- Respiratory safety clearance for respirator use (annual)
- Fit mask test (annual; completed onsite if no recent record)
- Background check within 45 days of start covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
- References: Minimum 2 supervisor references covering 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty/setting within last 3 years (no first-timers accepted)
- Employment application covering at least last 5 years of employment with explanations for gaps or overlaps
Training and Competency Requirements
- Completion of facility and specialty-specific WorkRamp modules annually (including basics of trauma-informed care)
- Medication competency exams as applicable
- Skills checklist updated annually
- Other certifications as required by clinical track (e.g., IV certification, management of assaultive behavior) may be required
This position is ideal for experienced LVN/LPNs with prior travel contract experience who are licensed in Alaska and have LTC experience. The role offers flexible shift options and a supportive environment with provided transportation and comprehensive orientation.
