Registered Nurse – Telemetry Unit (Travel/Contract)

Location: Hazard, Kentucky
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Work with Medical-Surgical (MS), Telemetry (Tele), and observation patients.
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio typically 1:6 or 1:7.
  • Night shift options: 3 or 4 shifts per week, each 12 hours (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM).
  • Float within scope of practice required.
  • Every other weekend required.
  • Blocked scheduling is not available.
  • Schedule follows a 36/48 hour pattern over two weeks.
  • Orientation occurs bi-weekly.
  • Must reside within 75 miles of the facility.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Kentucky.
  • Minimum 2 years of Telemetry nursing experience, with Telemetry experience within the last year.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Current NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.

Certifications & Competencies

  • BLS and ACLS (AHA Instructor/Provider/RQI) – must be current; renewal required if expiring within 30 days of start.
  • NIH Stroke Certification – must be current; renewal required if expiring within 30 days of start.
  • Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam required.
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required annually (not required for Psych, OR, Rehab, or true Med Surg units).
  • Core Competency Parts I, II, and III required.
  • Orientation Safety Manual acknowledgment required.

Health & Compliance Requirements

  • Annual physical exam or physician statement within 1 year prior to start, indicating clearance to work without restrictions.
  • Fit mask test to be completed onsite; PAPRs not accommodated if facial hair present. Medical or religious exemptions must be submitted on day one.
  • Negative TB test (QuantiFERON blood test) within 1 year prior to start; T-Spot/PPD not accepted. If positive TB history, chest X-ray within last 5 years plus TB questionnaire required.
  • Proof of immunity or vaccination for Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR doses or positive titer).
  • Proof of immunity or vaccination for Varicella (2 doses or positive titer).
  • Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination (declination must be within 1 year of start).
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination valid within 10 years; Td not accepted. Declinations acceptable if within 1 year of start.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season. Exemptions must be applied for through the facility’s employee health system within 48 hours of offer acceptance.
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start using a specific 9-panel bundle (no THC) with expanded opiates and oxycodone; annual updates required.

Background & Verification

  • 7-year work history verification required through a third-party vendor; attestation letters accepted if verification attempts are exhausted.
  • Two professional references within 1 year of start date required; one must be a supervisor or higher (Charge RN acceptable for one reference).
  • Education verification included in background check or third-party verification.
  • Background check must include comprehensive screening (criminal, sex offender, fugitive, violent offenders, county searches, federal exclusions, social security verification).
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days prior to start.

Additional Requirements

  • Must complete and sign specialty job description annually.
  • Must complete employee health attestation and upload required health documentation (TB results, OSHA respirator medical evaluation, flu vaccine/exemption) prior to start.
  • Kentucky Vulnerable Adult Maltreatment Registry verification required within 30 days prior to start (annual update).
  • Candidates must not be submitted to more than one job at a time.

  • Driver’s license required for submission.
  • Candidates with latex allergies can be accommodated but must notify the recruiter prior to start.
  • Assignment confirmation must be uploaded within 24 hours of offer acceptance.
