Job Opportunity: CVOR Certified Surgical First Assistant

Location: Metairie, Louisiana
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day shift, Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM (5 days/week, 8 hours/day, 40 hours/week)

Job Summary

• Specialty: Surgical Services
• Requires 1 year of experience in Surgical Services.
• Endoscopic vein harvesting experience is mandatory.
• Call requirements:

  • Typically every third day Monday through Thursday from 3:30 PM to 7:00 AM.
  • Weekend call every third week: Friday on-call 3:30 PM – 7:00 AM; Saturday and Sunday call 7:00 AM – 7:00 AM.
• Weekend work: Every other weekend (may change to every third or fourth weekend).

Required Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ABSA or NBSTSA or NCCT certification
• FA (First Assistant) certification

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of 1 year of experience as a First Assist Technician, with experience within the last year.
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
• Certification from ABSA, NBSTSA, or NCCT.
• FA (First Assistant) certification.

Health and Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within 12 months of start (not required by employer but required by placement agency).
• Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years (declinations accepted with proper documentation).
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray per current guidelines (two-step skin test or equivalent).
• Annual TB questionnaire.
• MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters required if titer is low.
• Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination signed within 12 months of start.
• Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters required if titer is low.
• Seasonal flu vaccination required annually (Oct 1 – Mar 31), with exemptions and declinations accepted with proper documentation. Mask required if unvaccinated.

Competency Requirements

• Medication/Pharmacology competency exam within 12 months of start, updated annually (minimum 80% score).
• Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam within 12 months of start, updated annually (minimum 80% score).
• Core competencies (Parts I, II, III) required and must be updated annually.

Additional Notes

• Employee appearance policy must be reviewed prior to starting.
• Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification may be required depending on unit assignment (not typically required for Surgical Services).
• Must comply with all facility-specific policies and documentation requirements.
