Registered Nurse – Trauma Unit (Travel/Contract)
Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours
Unit & Patient Population
- 45-bed trauma medical/surgical unit focused on acute and chronic care of trauma patients who are hemodynamically and medically stable.
- Fast-paced specialty unit admitting patients from Emergency Department, ICU transfers, or surgical/procedural services.
- Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:5 (days), 1:6 (nights), occasionally 1:7 nights (rare).
- Drip management required on all floors.
Job Responsibilities & Expectations
- Frequent floating required to meet hospital staffing needs; may float to multiple units including neuro, observation, trauma, and others within the hospital system.
- Travelers are prioritized first to float.
- Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays during the contract.
- Weekend shifts: 4 weekend shifts out of 8 possible in a 4-week period (days: Sat/Sun; nights: Fri/Sat night).
- Strictly a 100% nicotine-free facility.
Required Qualifications
- Registered Nurse license valid in Nebraska (pending license accepted if submitted with application; license must be in hand before start).
- Minimum 2 years RN experience in a large, urban hospital setting.
- EPIC electronic medical record charting experience required.
- BLS certification required.
- First-time travel nurses not accepted unless they have 2 years of experience at a Level I Academic Medical Center.
- ACLS, PALS, NRP, and NIH Stroke certifications may be required depending on unit assignment.
Additional Requirements & Compliance
- Government-issued photo ID required.
- Background check within 30 days of start, including multi-county and nationwide checks.
- Ongoing federal and state exclusion screenings (SAM, OIG) required every 30 days.
- Education verification and primary source license verification required prior to start.
- Drug screening within 60 days of start and annually thereafter.
- Annual physical exam, fit mask test, and immunizations/vaccinations required including:
- Tdap within last 10 years
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray with TB questionnaire if history positive
- 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers (measles, mumps, rubella)
- Hepatitis B titer or declination
- Varicella immunity or vaccination
- Flu vaccine documentation or declination (preferred, not mandatory)
- COVID vaccine preferred; exemptions accepted
- Annual skills checklist required.
- Two professional references from the last 2 years required.
Facility & Work Environment
- Scrubs: Mandatory Steele gray scrubs with facility logo (provided after confirmation).
- Parking: Permit available (~$55/month) or daily parking rates apply.
- Locals not accepted; candidate must live more than 100 miles from facility.
- Return to Office (RTO) requests allowed up to two weeks, submitted with application; additional requests at manager discretion.
