Job Opportunity: Nursery Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: Orangeburg, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Position Details

• Specialty: Nursery RN
• Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
• Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 6 patients
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• On-Call: Not required currently, but may change based on unit needs
• Floating: May float within the women's area of the facility as needed

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in South Carolina
• Minimum 2 years of nursery nursing experience, with nursery experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification

Schedule & Work Conditions

• Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks
• Block Scheduling: Possible with manager approval, dependent on unit needs
• Local Candidates: Considered on a case-by-case basis

Important Notes

• Hurricane Season: From June through November, all staff may be assigned to emergency response teams. Confirm availability before accepting assignments during this period.
• Floating: May be required to float within the women's area of the facility.

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Background Checks:

  • Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years
  • Includes SSN trace, state and national criminal checks, sex offender registry, and federal exclusions lists
• Education Verification: Required; diploma or transcripts may be accepted as temporary placeholder
• Licensure Verification: Primary source verification required; must be active and unencumbered
• NURSYS Verification: Required for all RNs
• Drug Screening: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
• References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
• Employment History: Verification of last 3 clinical employers (or fewer if applicable)
• Photo for Badge: Clear, passport-style photo with solid light background, frontal view, business casual attire, no hats or sunglasses

Health & Safety Requirements

• Physical Exam: Initial and annual physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands
• Immunizations & Titers:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years or declination form
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or vaccination series required; boosters may be needed for low titers
  • Varicella: Positive titer or vaccination series required; boosters may be needed for low titers
  • Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccination series, or declination required
• TB Testing: Negative T-spot or Q-Gold within 90 days of start; chest x-ray if prior positive test
• Flu Vaccination: Required during flu season (August 1 – March 31); medical/religious exemptions accepted but no declinations
• COVID-19 Vaccination: Not required but highly preferred; vaccination records must be uploaded or declination form completed
• Respirator Clearance: Annual medical clearance required for respirator use
• Fit Testing: Conducted onsite during orientation; facial hair must be trimmed or shaved

Certifications & Competencies

• Additional Certifications:

  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) as required for pediatric units (not required for this nursery position)
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification preferred (AWHONN or NCC accepted)
• Competency Exams: Medication/pharmacology competency exam and other unit-specific competency exams required
• Orientation: Completion of facility-specific orientation modules and safety manual acknowledgment required before start

• Radiation Badge: Not required for nursery RN role
• Travel Experience: First-time travelers are not accepted for this position
• Local Radius: 60 miles from facility
