Job Description

Seeking an experienced OB First Assist to join the Labor & Delivery surgical team for night-shift coverage. The ideal candidate will have strong OB operating room experience and proficiency in assisting with cesarean sections and obstetric surgical procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide intraoperative support during obstetric surgeries
• Ensure surgical readiness and maintain sterile technique
• Collaborate closely with surgeons, nurses, and anesthesia providers
• Deliver safe, high-quality patient care in a fast-paced OB environment
• Exercise excellent clinical judgment and effective communication
• Work independently during night shifts

Required Certifications and Licenses

• BLS (American Heart Association)
• ACLS (American Heart Association)
• NRP (AHA/American Academy of Pediatrics Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
• Current nursing license with primary source verification (Nursys verification within 30 days prior to start)
• Ascension Pharmacology Exam (minimum 80%, updated every 3 years)
• Ascension Specialty Exam (minimum 80%, updated every 3 years)
• Ascension Core Competencies (HIPAA, Joint Commission NPSG, OSHA topics; minimum 80%, updated yearly)
• Ascension Color Vision test (updated every 3 years)
• Ascension Epic Test-Out (training and assessment)
• Ascension Skills Checklist (clinical competency, updated annually)
• Ascension 12 Panel Drug Screen (within 30 days prior to start, updated annually)
• Ascension Education Verification (within 90 days of start)
• Ascension Criminal Background Check (including SSN trace, employment verification, OIG search, national sex offender check; updated annually)
• Ascension EPLS (within 90 days of start)
• Ascension Employment Verification (past 7 years, updated annually)
• Ascension Confirmation of Assignment (provided upon initial assignment and updates)
• Health Statement or physical exam (updated annually)
• Driver’s License/State ID (valid, must match address requirements)

Required Immunizations and Health Screenings

• MMR: Documented proof of two vaccines or positive IGG titer (no declinations accepted)
• Hepatitis B: Vaccination series completion or signed declination
• Influenza Vaccine: Required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31); exemptions accepted with mask requirement
• Varicella: Proof of two vaccines, serological immunity, or history verified by healthcare provider (no declinations accepted)
• Tdap: Valid within 10 years (no declinations accepted)
• Fit Test: Required annually (preferred prior to start)
• TB Screening: Positive IGRA or PPD results, negative chest X-ray within one year, and annual TB questionnaire
• 2 Step PPD or IGRA: Required within 90 days prior to start

Additional Requirements

• Completion of Ascension onboarding requirements and education attestations
• Completion of Ascension Unit Specific Checklist (optional for onboarding)
• Ascension Biometric Consent
• Ascension Nova StatStrip pre-hire modules
• Legal documentation for any name changes (if applicable)
• At least two professional references prior to first assignment

This position requires a highly skilled and independent RN with OB surgical experience, ready to provide critical support during night shifts in a busy Labor & Delivery environment.
