Registered Nurse – Medical/Surgical/Telemetry (Night Shift)
Location: West Burlington, Iowa
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (13 weeks)
Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM (Night Shift)
Estimated Hours: 36 hours per week with possible overtime
Patient Populations: Geriatric, Medical/Surgical, Adult, Telemetry
Unit: Medical Surgical and Telemetry Units
Job Responsibilities
- Deliver nursing care using the nursing process: assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation.
- Collaborate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Provide high-quality care to patients on Medical/Surgical and Telemetry units.
- Self-study telemetry strips upon acceptance; must pass a basic dysrhythmia test during the first week to work on the Telemetry/Med Surg unit.
- May be placed on call during low census periods; if called in, must respond and arrive on-site within one hour.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Iowa.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Minimum 2 years of Medical/Surgical and Telemetry nursing experience, with experience within the last year.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
- Experience with Cerner electronic medical records (EMR).
Health and Compliance Requirements
- COVID-19 vaccine (declination accepted).
- MMR: 2 vaccines or positive titer; if low/equivocal, 1 booster or declination accepted.
- Hepatitis B: 2 vaccines or positive titer; if low/equivocal, 1 booster or declination accepted.
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; if low/equivocal, 1 booster or declination accepted.
- Tdap: Valid within 10 years; declinations accepted.
- Influenza vaccine recommended during season (Sept 1 – March 31); facility declination accepted.
- TB test: Negative test within past year (TSPOT or QuantiFERON IGG). If history of positive TB, must provide documentation including chest x-ray and questionnaire.
- Fit test for approved respirators (Moldex 1510, 3M 1860s, 3M 1860, Moldex 1513, 3M 1870+).
- Health statement from a physician within the last 12 months.
- Drug screen (9 panel) within 30 days of start; THC not required.
- Background check within 30 days of start including SS trace and county search for last 7 years.
- Adult and Child Abuse clearance per state requirements.
- Education verification through third party.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start.
- Other professional verifications and attestations as required.
Additional Information
- Must have a current, valid driver’s license or state ID that will not expire during the assignment.
- Must complete pre-orientation computer-based learning (CBL) acknowledgment.
- Epic registration acknowledgment form required after registration completion.
- Position requires adherence to professional nursing standards and effective communication skills.
Summary
This is a night shift long-term travel RN position on Medical/Surgical and Telemetry units requiring strong clinical skills, telemetry knowledge, and certifications including ACLS and BLS. Candidates must be prepared for telemetry dysrhythmia testing and occasional on-call duties with rapid response expectations. Compliance with extensive health, background, and credentialing requirements is mandatory. Cerner EMR experience is required.
