Job Opportunity: Certified Surgical Technologist

Location: Northampton, Massachusetts
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (approximately 13 weeks)

Job Description

• Responsible for planning, preparing, and maintaining surgical instrumentation and the surgical field during peri-operative procedures.
• Perform post-operative activities related to room and instrument decontamination.
• Call required:

  • One weekday per week from 5 PM to 7 AM
  • One weekend day per month, 7 AM to 7 AM
  • Additional call may be required
• Experience preferred with general surgery, orthopedic, and gynecological procedures.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Certification in Surgical Technology (CST, NBSTSA, or NCCT).
• Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Surgical Technologist, including experience within the last year.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.

Contract Length

• Approximately 13 weeks.

Required Onboarding Credentials and Compliance

• Recent color photo (within 6 months), plain background, no filters or eyeglasses.
• Documentation of immunizations or immunity for MMR (measles, mumps, rubella).
• Tuberculosis (TB) test documentation within 3 months of start date; updated if break >6 months.
• Physician health statement within 1 year of start date; updated if break >6 months.
• Criminal background check and Massachusetts CORI check within required timeframes.
• Resume including past 7 years of work experience with city and state.
• Two professional references within 4 years, including at least one supervisor-level.
• Skills checklist completed within 1 year.
• Confirmation of assignment form upon acceptance and for extensions.
• Education verification of highest level achieved.
• Social Security Number trace as part of background check.
• National sex offender registry check within 30 days of start and updated annually.
• Exclusion checks against federal and state lists within 30 days of start and annually.
• BLS certification verification.
• Primary source verification of surgical technologist certification within 30 days of start.
• N95 respirator fit test within 1 year of start date and updated annually (no exemptions).
• Respirator medical clearance attestation if fit test required.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

• Hepatitis B vaccination or proof of immunity preferred.
• Tdap vaccination within 10 years preferred.
• Documentation for positive TB test with negative chest x-ray if applicable.

Notes

• Prior travel experience is not specified as required.
• Must comply with all credentialing and health requirements prior to start.
• Call schedule requires flexibility for weekday evenings/nights and occasional weekends.
