Unit Information

• 24-bed Step-Down Care Unit (SCU)
• Patient Ratios: 1 nurse to 3-4 patients
• Typically operates at 98-99% capacity

  • Patients requiring intermediate care between ICU and med/surg levels
  • Common cases include post-cardiac procedures, stable ventilator weans, and telemetry monitoring
• Unit Layout & Amenities:

  • "U" shaped layout with centrally located nursing station
  • Pyxis machines at both ends of the hall for medication access
  • Windows on each patient room for hallway visibility
  • Centralized clean supply area for staff convenience
• Support Services:

  • Cardiology team nearby for cardiac patient support
  • CenTrack system used to manage and silence alarms effectively

Responsibilities

• Provide care to patients requiring close monitoring but more stable than ICU patients
• Comfortable with telemetry, post-surgical recovery, and supporting patients transitioning out of critical care
• Strong organizational and multitasking skills needed due to high census and diverse patient needs
