Job Description

• Provide nursing care in a Pediatric Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU).
• Nurse-to-patient ratio varies by shift and patient acuity:

  • 1:1 for ICU status patients
  • 1:2 for ICU status patients
  • 1:3 for stepdown or non-ICU patients

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas.
• Minimum 2 years of Pediatric Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU) nursing experience, including experience within the last year.
• Experience working with pediatric patients.
• Certifications (must be current and from the American Heart Association):

  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
• Valid driver's license.

Required Credentials and Compliance

• Professional resume/profile and at least two professional references.
• Current nursing license verification and Nursys verification within 30 days prior to assignment start.
• Signed assignment agreement and confirmation of assignment documentation.
• Completion of specialty competency exams and skills checklists with minimum passing scores.
• Completion of required onboarding education and training modules, including:

  • Specialty exam demonstrating competency in Pediatric CVICU nursing.
  • Core competencies covering HIPAA, Joint Commission, NPSG, OSHA topics.
  • EKG exam with a passing score of at least 80%.
  • Cerner electronic health record test and training checklist.
• Health and immunization requirements:

  • Proof of two MMR vaccines or positive immunity titer.
  • Proof of two Varicella vaccines or immunity verification.
  • Tdap vaccination valid within 10 years.
  • Hepatitis B vaccination series completion or signed declination.
  • Influenza vaccine recommended during flu season (mask required if declined).
  • Tuberculosis screening with 2-step PPD or IGRA test and annual TB questionnaire.
  • Annual fit test for respiratory protection.
  • Statement of good health or physical exam prior to assignment and updated annually.
• Drug screening:

  • 12-panel drug screen within 30 days prior to start and annually thereafter.
• Background checks and verifications:

  • Criminal background check including Social Security trace, OIG search, and National Sex Offender registry.
  • Employment verification for the past seven years.
  • Excluded Parties List System (EPLS) check.
• Valid driver's license or state ID matching address on file.
