Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical

Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Start Date: April 20th or May 4th at the latest
• Shift Options: 36 or 48 hour weeks available
• Must be available for the first two weeks of the assignment
• Work every other weekend
• Floating to other Medical Surgical units required (approximately once per week)
• Staffing ratio: 1:5-6 for nights; may flex to 1:8 with LPN support
• Work with a variety of staff including RNs, LPNs, and Techs
• Unit cares for general medical diagnosis patients and specializes in gastrointestinal, urological, and gynecological surgeries
• Patient types include ortho/neurovascular, cardio/pulmonary, and surgical patients (GI, urology, hysterectomies, mastectomies)

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Michigan
• Minimum 1 year of Medical Surgical experience within the last year
• ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• PALS certification
• NRP certification
• ENPC certification
• NIHSS certification
• Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Certifications & Competencies

• BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only (as applicable)
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA only (as applicable)
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - AAP or American Medical Learning Center only (as applicable)
• CHEMO (Chemotherapy) certification may be required (ONS/ONCC)
• TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) required for ER positions
• EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) as applicable
• CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) as applicable
• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (passing score ≥80%, completed within 1 year prior to assignment)
• Competency Exam in specialty (passing score ≥80%, completed within 1 year prior to assignment)
• Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement required

Background & Compliance Requirements

• Criminal background check within 45 days of start, including lifetime search from age 18
• Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
• Education verification (copy of highest degree or diploma)
• Michigan fingerprinting required within 45 days of start for certain positions (tracking only for this role)
• Central Registry Clearance required for specific placements (not typically for this role)
• Drug testing: 10-panel including Marijuana/THC within 30 days of start (no exceptions)
• Physical exam within 1 year of start
• Fit mask testing required on-site (Honeywell DC365N95HC) for acute care roles
• Annual TB questionnaire and negative TB test or chest x-ray as applicable
• Immunizations required:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (proof of at least one prior Tdap vaccine)
  • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella (2 vaccines or positive titer, no exemptions)
  • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or facility declination)
  • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer, no exemptions)
• Seasonal Flu vaccination/documentation required for candidates starting after November 1, or approved medical/spiritual exemption

Documentation & History

• Complete application/resume with full 7 years work history, no gaps (dates required)
• One professional reference from a supervisor or manager required
• Skills checklist for applicable unit, updated annually

Additional Notes

• Block scheduling cannot be guaranteed or approved at this time
• Must be willing to work with a variety of staff (RNs, LPNs, Techs)
• Floating depends on unit needs, typically about once per week

This position is ideal for experienced Medical Surgical RNs who are flexible, able to float between units, and comfortable working with diverse patient populations and staff.
