Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - New York

Location: Goshen, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 26 weeks (approximately 6 months)
Shift: Evening shift, 2pm-10pm, Tuesday through Saturday (Pass days Sunday and Monday)
Hours: 40 hours per week

Job Description

• Provide nursing care to male juvenile offenders in a secure youth facility.
• Maintain general medical inventory, including controlled substances.
• Conduct medication administration.
• Review and evaluate nursing intervention plans and overall health conditions of youth.
• Ensure nursing interventions align with comprehensive treatment plans.
• Participate in staff trainings.
• Prepare required clinical and administrative reports.
• Maintain infection control standards.
• Serve as a member of the facility’s medical treatment team.
• Supervision staff will be present during nursing care.
• Dress code: business casual or scrubs.
• Free parking available on-site.
• No current vaccine requirements.

Required Qualifications

• Licensed and registered to practice as a Registered Nurse in New York State.
• Current certifications required:

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – American Heart Association or American Red Cross only
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – American Heart Association or American Red Cross only
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – American Heart Association or American Red Cross only
• Must pass medication/pharmacology competency exam (required for RNs).
• Must pass general competency exam.
• Background checks required, including:

  • Criminal background check with fingerprinting (completed onsite).
  • Sex offender registry and other relevant searches.
• Physical exam within 1 year of start date.
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months prior to start (Qgold, Tspot, or 2-step PPD accepted).
• Annual TB questionnaire completion required.
• Vaccination documentation or titers required for:

  • Measles (Rubeola)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B (vaccination, titers, or declination)
  • Varicella
• Drug testing: 9-panel within 1 year of start (instant tests acceptable).
• Seasonal flu vaccination or declination for 2025-26.
• COVID-19 booster preferred but not required.
• Two professional references required.
• Medicaid enrollment documentation required prior to start.

Additional Information

• The youth served are male juvenile offenders, some may remain in custody until age 21.
• Facility is accredited by the American Correctional Association.
• Population approximately 53 youth.
• Background checks and fingerprinting are strictly enforced and must be completed as part of onboarding.
• The hiring process involves a state-run bid system; candidates should expect a 7-14 business day wait after bid closing for interview consideration.
