Job Opportunity: Medical Lab Scientist
Location: New Brunswick, New Jersey

Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Must have a BS in Medical Technology or related field with 1 year of clinical rotations in a Medical Technology school.
- Recent dedicated Blood Bank experience required (generalist experience does not qualify).
- Minimum 4 years of Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) experience required.
- Strong blood bank experience is essential.
- Preferred experience with Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) and Level 1 Trauma patients.
- Experience with Softbank and EPIC systems is highly preferred.
- Work hours: 3 PM to 11:30 PM.
- Every third weekend (Friday/Saturday) required.
- No on-call duties.
- ASCP certification preferred.
- Will work in Blood Bank and Transfusion services.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or related field, or 1 year of clinical rotations in a Medical Technology school.
- Minimum of 4 years of Medical Laboratory Scientist experience.
- Medical Laboratory Scientist experience within the last year.
Schedule
- Shift: 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM
- Every third weekend (Friday/Saturday) required
- No on-call responsibilities
Required Documentation and Compliance
- Proof of identity (Government-issued photo ID and driver’s license).
- Background check within 30 days of start, including criminal, alias, and nationwide searches.
- Drug screening within 30 days of start.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes.
- Physical exam within the last 12 months, cleared to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease.
- Immunization and titers documentation for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap.
- Annual influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption.
- Fit test and respiratory medical clearance as required.
- Color blindness test if job tasks require color discrimination.
- Completion of required competency exams (medication/pharmacology, dysrhythmia/EKG, IV therapy/infusion).
- Skills checklist updated annually.
- Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history.
- Two references within the last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference.
- Work history verification as per New Jersey state requirements.
Certifications (as applicable)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – AHA required.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – Preferred.
- Other certifications as applicable to the role and department.
Additional Notes
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
- No on-call duties.
- Must be able to work every third weekend.
- Experience with specific patient populations (BMT, Level 1 Trauma) is highly preferred.
- Use of specific lab information systems (Softbank, EPIC) is a plus.
This position requires strict adherence to all health and safety documentation and compliance standards prior to start and throughout the assignment.
