ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Valdosta, Georgia
Position Overview
- Discipline: Registered Nurse (ICU)
- Experience Required: Minimum 2 years ICU experience
- Travel Experience: First-time travelers are welcome (no prior travel experience required)
- Patient Age Groups: Pediatrics, Adults, Geriatrics
- Patient Diagnoses: Medical ICU and Surgical ICU patients (excluding cardiac and occasional pediatrics); includes post-code, post-stroke, TPA administration, respiratory failure, dialysis patients
- Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM - 7:00 PM)
- Hours per Week: 36 hours
Job Responsibilities & Skills
- Float between Critical Care Unit (CPU), Progressive Care Unit (PCU), and Medical-Surgical/Telemetry (MS/Tele) units (typically managing 4 patients in MS/Tele)
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Care of ventilated patients
- Medication administration using Omnicell system
- Documentation using EPIC electronic health record system
- Weekend coverage every other weekend required
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or American Red Cross
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) preferred but not mandatory
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse license in Georgia
- Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, including experience within the last year
- ACLS certification
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- PALS certification issued by American Heart Association
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Schedule & Hours
- 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (36 hours total)
- Floating required across ICU, PCU, and MS/Telemetry units
- Weekend coverage every other weekend
- Called off hour rules apply incrementally (8, 10, or 12 hours per 2-week period)
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, renewed annually
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (or documentation if previously positive)
- Required immunizations or positive titers for:
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (titer, series completion, or signed declination)
- Varicella
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years (facility-specific declination accepted)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (including Marijuana/THC)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required prior to start during flu season (Sept 22 - Mar 31)
- COVID-19 vaccination or approved exemption per facility policy
Documentation & Onboarding
- Valid Driver’s License or State ID
- Social Security Card
- Official transcript or diploma copy
- Background check within 30 days of start (including SSN trace, 7-year county residence, nationwide and sex offender searches)
- Photo for badge (passport style, white background, no selfies)
- Facility-specific documents including job description, handbook, dress code acknowledgment, confidentiality agreement, drug and alcohol policy, first day info, scrub info, and required learning modules
- Completion of EPIC testing on day 1
- Competency check-off and dysrhythmia guide required prior to or during orientation
- References: 2 professional references per agency guidelines
- Employment application required
Additional Notes
- Fingerprinting through Georgia GCHEXS system is not required for RNs
- Mask fit testing completed at orientation
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification required only for ER travelers after 1 year at facility (not applicable here)
- Scrub colors vary by unit; ICU nurses typically wear Ceil Blue scrubs
- NetLearning modules must be completed prior to start
Contract Length
- 8 weeks
