Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - PCU
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Schedule: 3x12-hour night shifts
- Workdays: Weekdays and some weekends, including rotating holidays
- Float Requirement: Must be willing to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity
- Patient Ratio: Approximately 1 nurse to 3 patients
- Specialty: Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
- Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Proficient in IV start and telemetry skills
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Required Licenses & Certifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Ohio
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA Instructor/Provider or RQI accepted)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (AHA Instructor/Provider or RQI accepted)
- Additional certifications may be required based on unit assignment (e.g., NIH Stroke Certification, Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam)
Competencies & Exams
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required prior to start)
- Unit-specific competency exams
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (exceptions apply)
Background & Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (must be completed prior to start)
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring
- Education accreditation verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
- High school diploma or GED verification
- Employment application and skills checklist required
- Two professional references required (at least one from a manager or formal leadership role)
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year of start, or TB questionnaire
- Immunizations or titers required for:
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B (titer or vaccine series)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (new travelers cannot start with pending drug screen)
- COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended
Facility Policies & Additional Requirements
- Must review and sign dress code and hand hygiene policy
- Annual acknowledgment of ethics and compliance policies
- Fraud, waste, and abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
- Orientation safety manual acknowledgment required annually
- Fingerprinting must be completed using specific state codes and within 1 year of start; new fingerprinting required if break in service exceeds 90 days
- Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending at start
Notes
- Prior travel nursing experience is preferred but not mandatory
- Floating to other units of similar or lower acuity is required
- Candidates must be prepared for night shift schedule and rotating holidays
- All certifications must be current and verifiable prior to start
