Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse
Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Must have Oncology Surgery experience along with general surgery experience; float capability required.
- Minimum Level 2 trauma experience required; Level 1 trauma experience strongly preferred.
- Seeking a well-rounded RN able to work outside of their specialty as needed.
- Primarily day shift with possible night shift rotation.
- Possible off-shifting 1-3 shifts per 4-week schedule, though often no off-shifting available.
- Weeknight call: 1-2 nights per week on average.
- Weekend call: Approximately every 4-5 weeks (24 hours on Saturday or Sunday, 1-2 days per month).
- Block scheduling is not accommodated.
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 2 years of Operating Room RN experience.
- Experience with majority of the following cases:
- Whipple
- Esophagectomy
- Exploratory Laparotomy
- Bowel resection
- Thyroidectomy
- Parathyroidectomy
- Laparoscopic Adrenalectomy
- Neck dissection
- Breast reduction
- Stage one and two breast reconstruction
- Free flaps
- Mastectomy
- Lumpectomy
- Sentinel lymph node biopsy
- Melanoma excisions
- DaVinci surgical system experience highly preferred.
- Oncology, Orthopedic, and Neurosurgery experience highly preferred.
Required Qualifications
- Registered Nurse license valid in Nebraska.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- First-time travelers will not be accepted (prior travel experience required).
- Must be located more than 100 miles from the facility (locals not accepted).
Orientation & Scheduling
- Bi-weekly orientation sessions available.
- Call-back pay applies only if called back after leaving the facility post-shift. Extended shifts during a shift are paid at regular/overtime rates.
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID required.
- Background check within 30 days of start, including nationwide and federal enhanced searches.
- SAM and OIG checks required within 30 days of start and monthly thereafter.
- Education verification required.
- State-specific abuse/neglect registry checks required.
- Certifications as applicable: ACLS, BLS, PALS, NRP (AHA standards).
- Primary source verification of state license and NURSYS verification required.
- Competency exams and medication/pharmacology competency as applicable.
- Physical exam and fit mask test within 1 year, updated annually.
- Immunizations and health documents required: Tdap, TB testing, MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella, flu vaccination documentation or declination, drug screening within 60 days of start and annually.
- Baseline eye exam required within 30 days of start for OR staff.
- COVID vaccination preferred; medical/religious exemptions accepted.
- Two professional references from the past 2 years required.
- Annual skills checklist required.
- State registry and abuse/neglect checks must be completed within 30 days of start.
Additional Notes
- Parking permits available for professionals; daily parking also available.
- Travelers are paid differently than core staff; call-back pay only applies under specific conditions.
- Candidates should direct pay questions to their agency.
This position is ideal for experienced OR Registered Nurses with oncology surgery background and prior travel contract experience seeking a challenging and dynamic role in a high-acuity surgical environment.
