Registered Nurse - CVICU

Job Description

• Must have experience with Impella and CRRT/NXSTAGE (hard stop requirements).
• 2 years ICU experience required; CVICU experience highly preferred.
• Epic experience required.
• Patient ratio typically 1:2, sometimes flexes to 1:3.
• Weekend shifts required: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule.
• No call required.
• Floating required: will float to all ICUs and may float to ED or PACU to care for ICU patients; may occasionally float to MS/PCU units with 1:4 patient ratios.
• Nurses perform lab sticks, EKGs, and line starts.
• Equipment used includes Alaris IV Pumps, CADD PCA pumps, Servo I ventilators, Fresenius CRRT Dialysis machines, Edwards Lifesciences cardiac monitors, Medtronic EVD Management Systems, Arctic Sun TMS, GE Monitors, Hill Rom Beds, Pyxis Medication Station, and Veratron Bladder Scanner.
• May care for COVID-19 and isolation patients; must know your N95 mask size.
• Return to Office (RTO) limited to 5 days total.

Required Certifications

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) – can be obtained onsite if not already certified (cost approx. $50-$100)
• NIH certification
• Other certifications may be required depending on unit assignment.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana.
• Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, with ICU experience within the last year.
• Experience with Impella device (hard stop).
• Experience with CRRT/NXSTAGE (hard stop).
• Current ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
• Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
• Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification.
• Certified Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRT) certification.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system.

Schedule

• 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule required.
• No on-call duties.
• Floating to various units as needed.

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Government-issued photo ID matching candidate documentation.
• Background check within 6 months covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years.
• Various background screenings including EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, sex offender search.
• State nursing license verification within 30 days of start.
• NURSYS verification within 30 days of start.
• Competency exams (Medication/Pharmacology, Dysrhythmia/EKG, Core Parts I-III) required annually.
• Physical exam within 12 months (not required by employer but may be required by placement agency).
• Immunizations and health documents including:

  • Tdap within 10 years (declinations accepted with proper forms)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 3 months of start
  • Annual TB questionnaire
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer with boosters if needed
  • Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination
  • Varicella vaccination or positive titer with boosters if needed
  • Seasonal flu vaccination/documentation required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31) with exemptions and declinations accepted
• Drug screening within 30 days of start (10-panel or expanded depending on hire date).
• Employee appearance policy and flu declination forms must be acknowledged.

Additional Notes

• Candidates must have 7 years of work history with no gaps longer than 30 days.
• Must be able to pass all required background checks and competency exams.
• CPI certification may be completed onsite if not already held.
• Floating may include care in Emergency Department (ED), Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), Medical-Surgical (MS), and Progressive Care Unit (PCU).
• Nurses are responsible for multiple clinical tasks including lab sticks, EKGs, and line starts.

This position is ideal for experienced ICU nurses with strong CVICU skills, flexibility to float across units, and proficiency with Epic.
