Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - CVICU
Location: Knoxville, Tennessee
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM)

Job Details
- Float required
- Work schedule includes 2 weekends per month or every other weekend
- Patient ratios: 1:1 in CVICU; 1:2-3 in ICU
- No time off allowed during specified holidays (including Valentine's Day, Easter, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s Day, and local breaks). Holiday time off requests may be addressed onsite with management after assignment start.
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or ARC accepted; must be current and not expiring within 45 days of assignment start
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC accepted; must be current and not expiring within 45 days of assignment start
- NIHSS (NIH Stroke Scale Certification) - actual downloaded certification required; must be current and not expiring within 45 days of assignment start
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Tennessee
- Minimum 1 year of CVICU experience, with CVICU experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- ACLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- NIHSS certification
Competency Requirements
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam
- Competency Exam (general)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required for all RNs; must score 80% or higher)
- Core Competency Exams Part I, II, and III (minimum 80% pass rate, updated annually)
- Color Blind Testing (Ishihara test or equivalent within 12 months; must score 100%)
Health and Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months prior to start, signed by MD, DO, NP, APRN, or PA confirming fitness for duty
- Negative TB test (QGold or Skin Test) within 1 year; T-spots not accepted
- TB Questionnaire completed
- Immunizations or titers for:
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer required
- Hepatitis B - vaccine series, titer, or declination
- Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer required
- Seasonal Flu Vaccine required for starts on or after 9/8/2025 (no declinations accepted; exemptions only for medical or religious reasons with proper documentation)
- Drug testing within 45 days of start, including a comprehensive panel (amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, buprenorphine, cocaine, ecstasy, fentanyl, marijuana, methadone, methamphetamine, opiates, oxycodone, phencyclidine); MRO signature required
Background and Documentation
- Background check completed within 45 days of start and updated annually, including:
- 7-year SSN trace with complete address history
- Alias verification if applicable
- National and state sex offender registries
- Federal and state criminal searches
- Abuse registries
- Valid driver’s license or state ID (color copy, current)
- Photo for badge: passport style, solid background, no filters or facial piercings
- Onboarding attestation and review of facility-specific documents required
- Utility bill or lease/mortgage statement in candidate’s name with address at least 75 miles from contracted facility
Additional Notes
- Orientation offered bi-weekly
- Screenshots or photos of certifications are not accepted; must upload actual certificates
- Renewal of certifications must be uploaded 5 days prior to expiration
- Preferred but not required certifications for some units (e.g., TNCC for ER)
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification preferred for ER and Psych units, not required here
