Job Opportunity: Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) - Travel/Contract

Location: Portland, Indiana

Position Details

  • Shift:

    • Regular schedule: 20:00 - 06:00, 4 days a week (4x10s)
    • Scheduled every other weekend
    • Weekend shift times: 17:30 - 06:00
  • Required Experience: Minimum 2 years

  • National Certification Required: ASCP - MLS or MT

  • First Time Travelers: Accepted

  • Required Skills:

    • Strong experience with Cerner, Beckman, ACL TOPS, and Blood Bank

Required Certifications

  • ASCP - MLS or MT (National Certification)
  • ACLS (AHA only, RQI acceptable)
  • BLS (AHA only, RQI acceptable)
  • PALS (AHA only, RQI acceptable)
  • NRP (AHA only)
  • Chemotherapy (as applicable)
  • TNCC (as applicable)
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (as applicable)
  • State License Verification (must be current and verified online within 30 days before start)
  • NIH Stroke Certification (as applicable)
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement including HIPAA

Required Competencies

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (not required for Techs or RRTs)
  • Color Blind Testing (Ishihara exam or equivalent, minimum 100% score)
  • Unit Competency Exam

Required Background Checks & Verifications

  • Background Check (within 90 days of start) including:
    • 7 years residence/work history
    • SSN Trace
    • County, Statewide, National Sex Offender checks
    • FACIS Level III
    • Education Verification (highest applicable education)
    • International search if lived/worked outside US in past 7 years
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM Check (within 30 days of start)
  • HHS/OIG Check (within 30 days of start)
  • Transcript/Diploma (official and clear copy required)
  • Education Verification (may be pending at start but must be obtained)

Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Completion of facility-specific forms and packets prior to start (time sensitive)
  • Review and acknowledgment of Look of Assurance packet
  • Compliance Checklist and Confidentiality Agreement
  • Self Study Orientation & Test (must be completed 1 week prior to start)
  • Fast Track Slide Packet and Signature Forms (if applicable)

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Physical Exam (completed within 12 months of start)
  • Fit Mask Test (within 12 months, approved respirators only)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (strongly recommended)
  • Negative TB test or Chest X-Ray (within 1 year of start)
  • TB Questionnaire (updated annually)
  • Immunizations or positive titers required for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella (no declinations accepted)
    • Hepatitis B (series, titer, or signed declination)
  • Drug Testing: Negative 10 Panel Drug Screen within 12 months
  • Seasonal Flu Vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (required during flu season)
  • Color Blind Exam (Ishihara or equivalent)

Employment History & References

  • Minimum 2 references from recent employment verified within 2 years
  • References must be from charge, manager, supervisor, or above (team lead acceptable for Allied travelers)
  • Current Employment Application including work history and explanation of gaps over 30 days
  • Skills Checklist (within 12 months and annually)
  • Application must cover 7 years with all gaps accounted for

This position requires strong technical skills in laboratory systems and blood bank, adherence to strict certification and health requirements, and completion of facility-specific onboarding documentation. The schedule includes night shifts and weekend rotations. First-time travelers are welcome to apply.
