Job Opportunity: Radiation Therapist (Travel/Contract)

Location: Utica, New York
Specialty: Radiology / Cardiology
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Unit: Radiation Oncology
  • Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8-hour shifts (0800-1600), with some variable day hours to accommodate patient schedules
  • Weekly Hours: 37.5 hours/week
  • Licensing: Must hold a valid New York state license
  • Technical Skills Required:
    • Ability to treat patients using Varian 2300ix and Varian EDGE Truebeam machines
    • Knowledge of Siemens CT large bore for simulation
    • Proficiency with Electronic Medical Records systems ARIA and familiarity with EPIC

Required Certifications & Training

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA strongly preferred
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA strongly preferred
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – AHA strongly preferred
  • Harassment Prevention Training Certificate (New York state requirement)
  • State License Verification (primary source online verification)
  • Other certifications as applicable to profession (e.g., TNCC for ER staff, NIH Stroke Certification for ICU/ER staff)

Competencies & Exams

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (80% passing score or meet/exceed Angoff score)
  • Color Blind Testing (required prior to start)
  • Competency Exam (minimum 80% passing score or meet/exceed Angoff score)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required for ICU, PCU, ER staff; expires every 3 years)
  • NY Harassment Prevention Training Certificate (annual requirement)

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical Exam within 1 year of start
  • Fit Mask test (N95 respirator fit test) within 1 year and updated annually
  • Negative TB test or Chest X-Ray within 1 year (specific documentation required)
  • Immunizations or proof of immunity:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (titer, declination, or vaccine series)
    • Varicella (chickenpox)
  • Drug Testing: 9 Panel Drug Screen within 1 year of start
  • Seasonal Flu Vaccination or Declination (required during flu season)
  • Pneumonia Vaccination or Declination (required)
  • COVID-19 Vaccination preferred but not required

Documentation & Onboarding Requirements

  • Government issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
  • Emergency Contact Form (required prior to start)
  • Background Checks including:
    • 7-year search of locations lived/worked/schooled
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM (annual)
    • HHS/OIG (annual)
    • Education Verification
  • Facility-specific documents including:
    • Photo for badge (appropriate headshot)
    • Completion of online learning modules prior to first shift
    • Signed job description and welcome packet acknowledgment
    • Omnicell form (for nursing staff)
    • Pneumococcal declination form if declining vaccine
  • References:
    • 2 professional references for travel, allied, per diem acute care
    • 1 professional reference for per diem non-acute care
  • Skills Checklist (required annually)

  • Local radius for assignment is 75 miles
  • Must be able to accommodate variable day hours based on patient scheduling needs
