Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse with Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) experience to provide care for patients aged 0-17 years. The unit manages a variety of complex cases including neurology post-operative patients, respiratory issues, hematology/oncology, and neurosurgery. Cardiac surgery and dialysis patients are not typically seen on this unit.
Requirements
Experience
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required
- PICU experience is required
- Unit will accept first-time travelers with at least 2 years of experience (prior travel experience not required)
Certifications
- BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- Preferred: Chemotherapy certification, Neurology experience, IV placement, and lab draw skills
Skills
- Experience managing neurology post-operative patients
- Ability to administer chemotherapy (preferred)
- IV placement and lab draws (preferred)
Work Details
- Patient Ratio: Typically 1:2 based on acuity, sometimes 1:3
- Unit Size: 8-10 beds
- Patient Age Range: 0-17 years
- Shift: 12-hour day shifts (06:45 AM - 7:15 PM)
- Hours: 36 hours can be offered
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Float Requirement: Float as needed
- Call Requirement: None
- RTO (Request Time Off): Maximum 7 days allowed for auto-offer; no RTO after booking allowed onsite
- Scheduling: Scheduler works with travelers to accommodate preferences

Uniform
- Scrubs not provided
- Peds-friendly tops with navy blue pants or navy
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background check within 6 months
- Drug testing within 6 months (9-panel or instant acceptable)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (with exceptions for past positives)
- Required immunizations and titers: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B
- Flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
- Photo for badge (passport style, solid white background) required before start
- Various facility-specific documents and acknowledgments (confidentiality, hospital policies, medication safety, etc.)
- Competency exams including Dysrhythmia/EKG competency (must pass with 82% or higher)
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required for new contracts
- Color blindness test within 1 year
- Education verification and licensure verification required
Additional Notes
- No call-offs or additional RTO allowed onsite after booking; violations may lead to cancellation
- Scheduler support available to help with shift scheduling and weekend coverage
- Radiation badges required only for specific specialties (not applicable here)
- Epic test-out option available for experienced candidates in certain specialties (not specified for PICU)
