Travel/Contract Registered Nurse - Observation Unit

Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• 36 or 48-hour shift options available
• 13 or 26 week contract options
• Must be prepared to float frequently to meet hospital staffing needs, including potential float to Bellevue campus and various units (e.g., 4CS, 5 West, 6 Neuro, Trauma, Observation, Solid Organ Transplant Unit)
• Unit is a 36-bed Medical Surgical/Solid Organ Transplant Unit caring for adult pre/post liver, kidney, pancreas, intestinal transplant, and intestinal rehabilitation patients (adolescents 15+ cared for by core staff only)
• Patient ratios: 1:5 days / 1:6 nights (night ratio may rarely be 1:7)
• Drip management required on all floors
• EPIC charting experience required
• First-time travelers NOT accepted unless they have 2 years of experience at a Level I Academic Medical Center
• 100% nicotine-free facility
• Weekend shifts: 4 out of 8 possible in a 4-week period (days: Sat/Sun; nights: Fri/Sat)
• Holiday requirement: Must work 2/3 major holidays
• Locals NOT accepted (must live more than 100 miles from facility)
• Scrubs: Mandatory Steele gray scrubs with facility logo (provided after confirmation)

Required Qualifications

• Registered Nurse license valid in Nebraska (pending license accepted but must be in hand before start; otherwise booking delayed 6 weeks)
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience in a large, urban hospital (highest required experience)
• BLS and ACLS certifications required (AHA standards)
• EPIC electronic medical record experience required
• Drip management experience required
• Prior travel experience: First timers NOT accepted unless 2 years at Level I Academic Medical Center (implies prior travel experience strongly preferred or required)

Work Environment & Additional Info

• Floating required within scope to meet facility needs
• Care teams include CNAs, care techs, transport team, paramedics, and some LPNs
• RTO (Request Time Off) blackout dates due to College World Series: 6/11/26 - 6/22/26
• Up to two weeks of RTO permitted, must be submitted with application
• Parking available with permit or daily rates

Certifications & Compliance Requirements

• BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA required
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA required
• NIH Stroke Certification (as applicable) preferred
• Background check within 30 days of start, including nationwide and federal enhanced searches
• Drug screening within 60 days of start, updated annually
• Physical exam within 1 year, updated annually
• Fit mask test within 1 year, updated annually
• Immunizations and health documents required:

  • Tdap/Tetanus (within last 10 years)
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray (annual updates)
  • MMR (2 vaccines or positive titer)
  • Hepatitis B titer or declination
  • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
  • Flu vaccine preferred (documentation or declination required)
  • COVID vaccine preferred (medical/religious exemption accepted)
• Education verification and references required
• Annual skills checklist required
• State-specific registry checks required

Summary

This is a travel/contract RN position in a high-acuity transplant and medical surgical observation unit requiring at least 2 years of RN experience in a large urban hospital, strong EPIC and drip management skills, and flexibility to float frequently. Prior travel experience is strongly preferred or required.
