Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Specialty: Registered Nurse

Job Details

  • Shift: Rotating weeknights and weekends, including holidays
  • Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12-hour shifts (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
  • Unit: Progressive Care Unit (PCU) preferred; Medical-Surgical (MS RN) considered
  • Patient Ratios: Approximately 1:3-4
  • Floating: Required to float to different units within the hospital system as needed

Experience & Skills Required

  • Minimum 2 years of PCU or Med-Surg nursing experience
  • EPIC electronic medical record experience required
  • Previous travel nursing experience preferred
  • Certifications:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • NIH Stroke Certification (required for most ICU, PCU, ED, and Brain & Spine units)

Certifications & Competencies

  • ACLS, BLS, and NIH Stroke Certification (AHA approved, instructor/provider or RQI acceptable)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required within 1 year of start and annually thereafter
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required prior to start
  • Unit-specific competency exams required
  • State nursing license verification within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS verification required for RNs
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement required annually

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific code 3701.881)
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring
  • Education accreditation confirmation from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, NLN CNEA, or CASN)
  • Transcript or diploma verification required
  • Pending background check attestation allowed if fingerprint results are pending
  • Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
  • Dress code and hand hygiene policy acknowledgment required

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12)
  • Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year or chest x-ray if positive
  • TB questionnaire required annually in lieu of TB test
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters if low titer
  • Hepatitis B: Titer or 3-vaccine series; declination accepted
  • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; medical exemption possible with documentation
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene)
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31); decliners must wear a mask
  • COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended

References & Documentation

  • Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leader
  • Employment application required, including education details for nursing candidates
  • Skills checklist required

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must be prepared for fingerprinting and background check processes specific to Ohio
  • Floating to different units may require flexibility and adaptability
  • Compliance with all facility-specific policies and annual renewals of certifications and trainings is mandatory
