Registered Nurse (ICU RN) - Travel/Contract
Location: Rio Rancho, New Mexico
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: ICU Registered Nurse
- Experience Required: Minimum 1 year ICU experience
- First-time Travelers: Accepted
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend, minimum of 13 weekends
- On-call: Not required
- Floating: Yes, occasional floating to other inpatient units on a rotation basis
- Block Schedule: Not accommodated
- Locals: Not accepted within 75-mile radius
- Pending License: New Mexico license can be pending at time of submission
- Return to Office Restrictions: Absences greater than 7 days require approval
Work Schedule & Hours
- 36 or 48 hours per week
Patient Ratios
- ICU: 1:2
- Sub-acute Care (SAC): 1:4
- Floor: 1:5
Unit & Patient Population
- Mix of ICU, Sub-acute, and floor status patients
- Common diagnoses: Sepsis/Septic Shock, Renal Failure, ARDS, Respiratory Failure, Diabetic Ketoacidosis, Alcohol Withdrawal, Orthopedic Trauma, Bariatrics
- Equipment: CRRT (NxStage), Edwards FloTrac (EV1000), Phillips Monitors, Hill-Rom ICU beds, Ceiling lifts, Arctic Sun, Bear Hugger, Cooling Blanket
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) preferred
- NIH Stroke Certification preferred
Special Skills & Procedures
- Chest tube insertion and removal
- Intubations
- Paracentesis and Thoracentesis
- Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT)
- Arterial and Central Line management (including Vas Cath, PICC lines)
- FloTrac/Vigileo monitoring
- Dysrhythmia interpretation and management
- Multi-system organ failure management
- IV insulin protocols
- GI surgery care
- Blood product administration
- Starting IVs and continuous IV sedation
- Procedural sedation administration
- Titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
- Stroke management (CVA/Acute Stroke)
- Hypothermia protocol (Arctic Sun)
- BiPAP/CPAP assistance
- Interpretation of ABGs
- Suctioning (ETT, NT)
- Ventilator management
- Phlebotomy
- Surgical wound care including drains and wound vac
COVID-19 Vaccination
- COVID vaccination required
- Religious and medical exemptions accepted with completion of exemption form signed by a provider
Background & Health Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start, updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
- Fingerprinting required within 10 days of orientation
- Physical exam within 1 year prior to start
- Fit mask test required within 1 year of start
- Tdap vaccine required (declinations accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Annual TB questionnaire required
- Required immunizations or positive titers: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (THC not required)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or approved exemption required annually
Additional Requirements
- 2 professional references within 3 years of hire
- Unit-specific skills checklist updated annually
- Various facility-specific orientation and competency documents required
