Job Opportunity: Behavioral Health Registered Nurse (Per Diem)

Location: Belleville, New Jersey
Shift: Night Shift (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Hours per Day: 12 hours
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Position Summary

• Role involves working in a Behavioral Health Psychiatric Emergency Assessment Unit.
• Focus on managing psychiatric patients, including physical restraint application (training provided).
• Unit ratio approximately 1:6.
• Medical/Psychiatric experience required.
• Charting experience with EPIC system required.
• Candidates must be able to float within their skillset across two Behavioral Health units.
• Orientation includes computer training at home and on-unit training.

Scheduling & Commitment

• Minimum commitment of 4 shifts per month.
• Cancellation policy: 3 last-minute cancellations (within 24-48 hours) may lead to review and warnings.
• Must be dedicated to completing compliance requirements promptly.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Jersey
• Minimum 2 years of psychiatric nursing experience, with psychiatric experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification
• Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) certification
• Experience with EPIC electronic health record system

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Government-issued photo ID and driver’s license required within 48 hours of signing.
• Criminal background check within 30 days of start, including alias and multi-level searches.
• Drug screen (10-panel urine) within 30 days of start.
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 3 months of start.
• Physical exam within 12 months, confirming ability to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease.
• Respiratory medical clearance and on-site fit testing mandatory prior to start; must be updated annually.
• Influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually.
• Immunization proof or positive titer for:

  • Measles (Rubeola)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Varicella
  • Hepatitis B (titer required)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
• Color vision test and latex allergy questionnaire if job tasks require.
• Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history.
• Two clinical leadership references from the past year (at least one managerial).
• Work history verification per New Jersey state requirements (minimum 1 year prior to start, allowing 30-day gaps).

Orientation & Training

• First day: computer training at home.
• Second day: on-unit training starting at 7:00 AM.
• Completion of ITTC de-escalation training course (online modules plus in-person session within 14 days of start).
• Must complete required competency exams (medication/pharmacology, EKG/dysrhythmia, IV therapy, etc.) within 72 hours of signing.
• Pass/fail testing policies apply; remediation required after failed attempts.

Additional Notes

• Candidates must work exclusively at this site once approved; no location changes allowed.
• Prior staff must have a minimum 6-month separation before rehire.
• Facility requires navy blue scrubs.
• Candidates must have an agency badge and submit a professional headshot photo for badge issuance.
• Floating policy must be acknowledged and completed for every new assignment.
• Parking garage form required (time sensitive).
• Must complete annual education sign-off and safety manual acknowledgment prior to start.
