Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical - Neuro Registered Nurse

Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit & Patient Population

  • Mixed Acuity unit combining Medical Surgical, Telemetry, and Stepdown care levels
  • 48-bed unit specializing in Neurology and Neurosurgery
  • Patient conditions include strokes, aneurysms, seizures, spinal fusions, brain and spinal cord tumors, and other neurological disorders
  • Eight beds equipped for long-term EEG monitoring
  • Multi-care level unit; RNs may care for up to five Med Surg patients simultaneously

Work Schedule & Staffing

  • Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
  • Weekend requirement: 4 weekend shifts out of 8 possible in a 4-week period (days: Sat/Sun; nights: Fri/Sat night)
  • Ratios:
    • Medical Surgical/Telemetry: 1:5 (days), 1:6 (nights), occasionally 1:7 nights (rare)
    • Stepdown: 1:3-4 (days and nights)
  • 36 or 48-hour shift options available
  • Floating required frequently to meet hospital staffing needs, including potential float to other campuses and units within scope
  • Holiday requirement: Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience in a large, urban hospital setting
  • First-time travel nurses not accepted unless they have 2 years of experience at a Level I Academic Medical Center
  • EPIC electronic charting experience required
  • Drip medication administration required on all floors
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required

Licensure & Certifications

  • Active RN license for Nebraska (pending license accepted but must be in hand before start; booking may be delayed if not)
  • Required certifications (as applicable per unit):
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • NIH Stroke Certification required as applicable

Facility & Work Environment

  • 100% nicotine-free facility
  • Care teams include CNAs, care techs, transport team, paramedics, and some LPNs
  • Mandatory scrubs: Steele gray scrubs with facility logo (provided after confirmation)
  • Parking available via permit (~$55/month) or daily rates

Compliance & Onboarding Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID required
  • Background check within 30 days of start, including multi-county and nationwide checks
  • Ongoing federal and state exclusion screenings (SAM, OIG) every 30 days
  • Education verification and primary source license verification required
  • Drug screen within 60 days of start, updated annually
  • Physical exam and fit mask test within 1 year, updated annually
  • Immunizations and health documents required:
    • Tdap within last 10 years
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray with TB questionnaire if positive history
    • 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers (boosters if low/equivocal)
    • Hepatitis B titer or declination
    • 2 Varicella vaccines or positive titer (boosters if low/equivocal)
    • Flu vaccine preferred (documentation or declination required)
    • COVID vaccine preferred; exemptions accepted
  • Annual skills checklist required
  • References: 2 work references from past 2 years (1 must be most recent employer if not a current traveler)
  • State-specific registry checks required within 30 days of start

Additional Notes

  • Locals not accepted; candidate must reside more than 100 miles from facility
  • RTO (Request Time Off) blackout dates: June 11-22, 2026 (due to College World Series)
  • Up to two weeks of RTO permitted, must be submitted with application; additional requests at manager discretion
